Hey guys, nice to be "up and running", just came off a 6 day Binge in the Lex/Mansfield (Ohio)area
with no Elect, or Water! Gee kinda felt being on the big pond! Hard to believe my COOLER survived
the Elements...Looks like with this warm spell, I would assume according to Lake Vision, the lake
should be accessible from Catawba, or maybee Mazuriks SHORTLY! I know there's a lil cool down
this week-end, just wondering ....If anybody is in the area, feel free to leave a post, im BORED,
and ready for some Eyes....Have my Gps numbers from 2002 out of Catawba where we hammered
the Eyes, PS im not looken for "Spikes" or 15" Fish... looken for "Hogs" that have already served the
Lake 10 X over!...Ready to fire up the Evinrude.....Jack

Glad to see you're back jack. No water? Hope you kept yourself well hydrated !

Lake conditions you ask?
50mph winds + every river oozing massive amounts of mud = not prime time

I'm sure we could catch a few at Spreaders on the Huron river !!

COOLERKING

Gary, thanks for your concern! Hydrated you ask? OHHH YEAH, Steady diet of Naturals
kept me alive! Gary I was thinking about the same diet on Sat, but now have to work!
I really think in a week or two weather permitting, its very possible to do the "ICE"
thing in the boat...Took a steady pull of 27-30" Eyes through the ice in the winter of
2002! Releasing the "stock fish" of 19-24" leaving to spawn! Spreaders on the River
sounds very tempting, we'll hook up soon! Would like to here a post from someone
"west" on the shore ice....Thanks Jack

Jack, there is no shore ice. Everything is open and muddy. May make some ice if the wind goes down and the temperature stays down, but right now nothing is available. If you come up and want a change of scenery, you might want to join Ollie at Diamonds. LOL

01-15-2005, 11:11 AM
Joey, thanks for the update....Jusy Maybee in a couple 3 weeks or sooner we can get the boats
out and start hammering some Eyes! Wishfull thinking i guess, yeah a change of scenery would
be nice...Dont think your gonna see "hard water" this year, but anythings possible! I was almost
certain everything should be accessible.Keep me updated, THANKS Jack...PS tell that old Fart
Ollie hello from me!

i saw two boats put in at mazuriks yesterday. i wasnt around when they got done fishing. i dont know if they did any good. water is still stained. i have a marina in mind to try for some perch, i'll let you know how i do. keep your tip up and good luck.

B Thomas

are you just casting for the perch or do you mean ice fishing?? I hear the marinas can be good for when ice is in. After this week looks like that may be a possiblity.

Hey CoolerKing, When you're done chasing those winter eyes get in touch with me. I'm putting on a wild game feast on Sunday March 6th in Fairport Harbor. Huge raffle, cards, adult beverages, fish stories and good eats. Let me know if you're interested. It's open to everyone. Tickets are advance sale only!

Well Brian, i guess i can "scrap" the boat idea....According to the forcast looks like all
the public access ramps will be (or already are) LOCKED in tight! Another 4 or 5 days
im assuming you will be able to ice fish the marinas! Dixie Chicken, sounds like a feast
and a fun time to be had, will definately consider! Looks like the next report in the Western
Basin should be from "hard water"!.....If anybody ventures out on the bay, or some marinas
leave a post.....Thanks Jack

neck of the woods he is know as "FLUFF"...Im assuming you know the meaning! Now back to
business, I have a couple "scouts" in the Camp Perry /Catawba/Marblehead area, just waiting
for some positive feedback! MAYBEE we can stick some this week-end???...Let me know what you

Cooler King - Made the rounds today. Nobody out anywhere. Usually starts off Catawba State Park and moves West. Ice as far as you can see but not good clear ice as it has a lot of shove ice. Have to hope for more cold weather. Mid February is when it starts to heat up anyway. Will keep checking and let you know when it heats up. Ollie says Diamonds beats Spreaders anytime! LOL

I have always that the Argo's seem like a safe way to go and have even looked into buying one before. They are definately not inexpensive. Anyhow, what I was wondering if you have ever gone through the ice on one before. If so, how easy/hard was it to get out of the water and back up on the ice? Could you drive is back up or would you need a winch?

Thanks for the info.

I was up Friday, and there was very little activity around the Catawba-Marblehead area.......a couple of sleds went out from Mazurik...but there were no clusters of shanties anywhere to be seen. I drilled thru 10" of ice right near Mazurik ramp, and got skunked, then went to a favorite marina and had some fun, fast pan fish-perch action mid day. most of the perch and gills were small, but I did score one 10" plus perch in the same spot. Be safe out there...

Going out of Millers Boat Ferry on the "point", Your right this area is usually the last area to freeze
and will be the first area to "break off" if you get a strong S wind, or current alone will eat it!...Stay
away from Mouse as the airboats are using that area to transport! Good Luck....Jack

3 of us were out this morning for about 3 hours abt 5 mi out of Mazurics. Caught 6 walleye in the 3-4 lb. class. Maybe 6 dinks. Fished 32' of water, most of the fish caught were suspended abt 24-26'.

Crossed a 1'crack in our fishing area that made me kinda nervous. On our way back in, it was closed up. Near shore ice, kinda sloppy.

Fished west of Kelley's all day in 32 FOW 7 miles out of Mazurick's. Caught 16 nice walleyes b/w the three of us, with every bit that many in throwbacks. Best times were just before noon and just before dark. Smaller Buckwing spoon, perch colored packed w/minnows was hot with the emerald green w/gold back smaller pimple being a close second. I even caught one on a straight hook split shot and slip bobber with a minnow. All were suspended in 25 to 28 FOW so the Vexilar was a must. we fished near the big crack and some people had trouble getting back accross. Ice was ugly on the way back to the ramp and doubt will improve with warmer rainy weather and wind on the way. Hurry and get em now while their hot cause it probably will not last. Hope I am wrong.

Good Luck All !!!!!

I did find a group of fish north in 36' but lots of spikes some nice fish mixed in. I hear there's been a bite near A can also. I have not fished it myself.
