Anyone thinking of venturing out on the ice this weekend around Stony Point in Monroe? The Lake Vision cams show that Bolles is iced up, and with the cold front after today it should only add to the ice.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

had the same thought myself. the fish were in 5-8 feet of water before ice up. why wouldnt they be there now?check posts from november and that will give you an idea where guys were fishing. i do not want to be there with 500 of my closest friends. the ice should be there. oh , heck just go off the beach at sterling. fish the part where the rocks and the beach seperate. try to get out to 12 feet. thats where they were.or in even closer.#5 jigging shad or rap in usual colors.take the fishfinder and move arround a bit. i'm going to try to get out there if i can get a good ice report.those are resident fish and the bite was strong from what i read.see you out there. I've posted the ice condition question on a couple of other sites and have not heard anything. I think I might take a ride there Saturday afternoon and check for myself. It should be good to walk out at a minimum I'm not sure about quads yet. Any reports on ice conditions would be appreciated.

Does the park authority let you park by the beach area and walk out from there? Seems like a better idea than fighting the cluster bleep by the point.

I think the park authority will as long as you have a day/season pass. It looks like we may be heading out to Devils on Sat and then I am trying to convince my crew, (actually CMFISH51's crew) to hit up the point on Sunday.

If any of you guys head out let me know, maybe we can hook up on Sunday. I live in the neighborhood right behind the park so we could meet up their.

Went to Stony Point last night around 5:00 Pm. There was ice and three shanty's off the point. There were not any machines on the ice, just the three shantys. I don't know where they enter the hard water at, but they didn't come from my observation point. I was going to try and get out tomorrow after the wind blows all the snow from the ice.

it depends on where your coming from.you have to park at brest bay marina unless you know someone at the point. there is no public parking at stoney pointe. they will ticket you if you park anywhere on the road or where it is posted. there is some state land off pt aux pauex road just before you get tothe little hump entering the point. i dont know how hard it is to get to the lake from there though. it is on the south side of the road. hope this helps

The parking situation is horrible, the marina was closed so I tried the state park and there were a few guys that got out there. I left my machine at home so I was going to walk out. I got to the island in the channel and spudded ice that broke in one hit. There had been 4-wheelers and snowmobiles over that spot, they must have gotten lucky. I turned around and tried for crappies around the launch, no luck. Anyone who has some info as to how you can get out to the point would be greatly appreciated.

I live very close to the marina. It didn't look like they were open yesterday, but they did plow out the lot yesterday afternoon. They are normally open from 8 - 6pm and usually have minnows available this time of the year. There were six shanties out near the point yesterday afternoon and a few others braving the elements in the open from what I saw in my spotting scope. That is about your only option other than State Park. Both are quite a hike to the point... about 3 miles. There is a state game area, but the parking isn't very close to the lake so it doesn't get you any closer to the point than the marina.

Does anyone know if there have been any fish caught off stoney point over the weekend? Does anyone know what the water clarity under the ice is like in that direction? Thanks for any info.

No secret parking spots that are open to the public.

I would give them a call. They are usually open all winter even if there isn't any ice. I don't know why they may have been closed. Once there is good ice, there are more cars there on a Saturday or Sunday than on the 4th of July.

I remember one time waiting in line for the place to open that went all the way to the party store on the corner

We went out of the state park to get to stony point. We fiqure we could ride along the shore line with the quad, but we could not get very far after we turn north leaving Swan Creek. If fact, we stop at a clean area of ice and drill a hole. 2" thick!!!!! we turn around and ending up fishing at the mouth of Swan Creek in 10' of watrer. No success. I did talk to a fellow that said he got his limit of walleyes Sunday morning off the point. There six or seven shanties of the point Sunday. I don't know where they park to get there. They must be coming from the point itself.

Wet your net often!!!!!

That's what it looked like the one time I tried to go out there two years ago. Jam-packed with people all over. Couldn't find parking anywhere near there so decided not to go.

Took a peek at the lake from Estral Beach yesterday. Ice as far as you could see, but doesn't look too safe. Up-heaves and piled ice everywhere. Anyone notice? The Detroit River is frozen from shore to Grosse Ile by the Wyandotte Ramp and a few other spots. Don't see that too often.

There were cars parked at the Marina on Monday. A few more shanties than Sunday also.
