Was at Gander Mountain today and they had a clearance sale on a large quanity of different types of Berkley line. Got to wondering what the shelf life was on the different types of line on the market today. If you buy a large quanity of line , how long can you store it before using it? What is the best way to store it? Thanks for any information you may have. Coach
Not sure about a definite shelf life, but try to avoid temp extremes and especially sunlight.
I would avoid the discounted fishing line if you are looking to fish tournaments or trophy fish. If just fun fishing not a problem. The line is clearanced for a reason!
To keep your line in good condition you should keep it from sun light. Store it in a black bag. Also keep it in a cool place with a constant temp. Temperature extreams will deteriate the mono. Fire line not as much of a problem. If you are having a problem with your line coiling(lots of memory) try soaking it in water for a couple of hours. This will soften the line and remove the memory. There is also a spray made by Blakemore which lubricates and treats the line reducing memory.
