Hello all,

I couldnt be the only one with this on my mind...... Wondering if anyone has been through Fort Thompson, SD in the past week or so? Ice conditions/open water below the dam? Water lever up any? Ramp at the dam functional? Mild temps forecasted up through Saturday.

Thanks for any info.

Hey BH!

I know a guy that fished below the dam last saturday. Not sure what the ramp looks like, but he did get his Pro-V in. He did not do well.

Thanks CROST.

I've been told Francis Case is in pretty rough shape. Considering just driving out to scope out the situation, and I figured as long as I'm driving out, I could just as well pull the boat along....:-)

I've got a few cows due to calve the end of Feb, and into mid March. So if I'm going to get out there early, it would have to be in the next week or two. Otherwise probably shoot for around the 1st of April.

Have you been hitting the hard water at all? I've been out a fair amount, with moderate luck. Nothing spectacular.

Thanks for the report.

Ryan, are you trying to kill a guy? Last weekend it was way too windy to fish Chamberlain, but this weekend sounds gorgeous!! But I'm going to the boat show in Sioux Falls while my wife hits the new Old Navy, after which I plan on taking my loving wife out someplace nice to eat for Valentine's.

But, dang it, quit reminding me that I should be going fishing instead!!:P

As a matter of fact my wife had the same plans for us! Change of plans however..... Weather sounds real good. I cant really afford to pass this up. I may not be able to get to far from home in a few weeks. You can get your revenge then!

Enjoy the boat show.........it could be worse, much worse actually.

I'll let you know how we do, sounds like we're taking two boats out.

OK, that was the dagger post!! I'll be moping around tomorrow knowing you're out fishing and I'm not :-(

Good luck and watch out for the stumps!! Heading to the dam/Crow Creek area or south of Chamberlain?!?

Good luck! 57 degrees and 5-10 miles per hour winds last I looked for Chamberlain tomorrow!

"OK, that was the dagger post!!"

LOL!!

We'll likely be fishing in the area of the dam,....maybe heading as far south as Crow Creek, depending on water level / conditions. Probably wont be moving to far from the dam however.

Thanks for the heads up on the stumps / sandbars.

Enjoy that boat show.

Last time I was out there (November) couldn't find water deeper that 3 feet north of Kiowa when we attempted to motor north up to Crow Creek. Friend's boat ended up with a bent prop thanks to a stump there!

I have heard similar tales. We will use the utmost caution. I'll give you the latest report when we get back. Plan on taking the digital out there also,......maybe get some pictures taken. (If the fish allow it) ;)

Inquiring minds (or at least mine) want to know how you did this weekend......

Tough fishing!.....but ohhh so nice to get out there. Sounded like a select few boats happened upon a few walleyes down in the Kiowa area,.....however the majority had a hard time finding fish. Corps was letting little to zero water out,...at least from what I could tell, and this may have played a part in the bite also.

We fished from the dam,....down to the Kiowa area,....covered quite a bit of water, with not much luck at all. However, always nice to be out in the boat, a nice break from the hard water!

Water condition were not as bad as what we feared. Certainly is very low, but navigation was not a problem.

Hope to get out again in a month or so!

That's why I like going in the middle of the week, the water is usually moving!! Sure seems to make the fish more active.

Well, couldn't have asked for a nicer day to be out (for February!!)

How deep was it between Crow & Kiowa there? Deeper than 3 feet, I hope!!

About 4, 4 1/2 feet.

Will Cedar shore ramp even be open for use this spring? How about the one in town?

American Creek was dry this fall when I was out there, but you could access Cedar Shore

Was through the area on business Friday and water is very low. I'm sure it's been lower, but unless levels come up, American Creek won't be an option. Cedar Shore looked like it'd be OK. Bays were iced in, but most of the main channel was open.

Fish during the week while they have the water running.
