I'm looking at buying a used 1998 Targa 2000 and just wondering about quality and performance.Stress cracks, or anything to be worried about? Never had a glass boat, so dont know what to look for.Any information would be appreciated.

I've fished out of a Targa 2000 for two years now and in my opinion it is the best all around boat in rough or calm water. As far as quality I haven't had any problems other than hoses and the typical bugs.

I have a 98 and really like it (not selling). It is a very good all purpose boat and you should be happy with it. If I were buying used one I would check the setup. Where are the batteries? Many people including pro's have opted to move them up front. Why? This boat is heavy especially in the rear. Another reason why most everybody runs some sort of fin on these boats. Check that out. What kind of trolling motor do they have? I really suggest a 60". I have a 50" and it is not bad, but I would suggest 60". As far as stress cracks I have only seen one area on mine. Imagine sitting behind the wheel. Take your left foot and move it to the left. It will hit the left support wall for the drivers console. Check the outside of that wall for any cracks. The wall unfortunately has some flex to it and if you have happy feet like me you may start to cause some damage. Mine has one small crack I noticed last summer and now I am very conscious about not putting any undue pressure on it.

I have the 18 Targa with walk-thru windsheild, but have fished with friends in the big glass Targas on Mille Lacs, Leech, and Oahe and Sakakawea. I would go to the glass Targa in a heartbeat if I fished big water more often.
It is a great big water boat. Far superior to many that cost much more (point: you don't always get what you pay for!)

I purchased one last year and like you it was my first glass boat.
I was happy with it and especially on the rough days. i am still tinkering with setup but like other posts it is a good boat in rough water.
I still need to move the trolling motor batteries up front and have the 225 opti in lowest hole and have a SE Sport stabilizer that made a big difference in the performance, before I installed that it was rough riding.
Havent seen any stress cracks yet.\
Bow is huge for fishing.
Using a 15HP 4 STROKE ON REAR AS WELL (MORE WEIGHT) .
Also came with a 60+ thrust bow mount but havent used it much.
Boat came late in summer so missed the early spring bite where I may have used the bowmount for sneaking around the shallows.
I got the walk thru and am grateful for the drier ride with it.
KEEP ON FISHING
