Wondering if the boat basin is still full of ice or if it's opened up?

Is the Gravel road ramp open?

Anyone getting out?

Let me guess, it's low.... :)

Todd,
Fish the area two weeks ago and the water was very low. Had to use the east ramp. The ice in the boat basin was within 30 yards of the ramp. It could easily be out by now. We had a roller trailer and had to crank it back on by hand. You'd never have a chance with your big boat unless there running more water. It was just nice getting the lines wet. Popped a few early and then things really slowed down. Get ahold of me, would like to talk to you about the NE. Walleye Assoc. Flippenstik@yahoo.com

I have been up there as recently as yesterday. The ramp adjacent to the fast water (on the south side) is still the only one that is usable. The water is still low but has been comming up slowly for the past three weeks. Getting a boat in such as yours should not be to much of a problem. The major drawback is that there is no dock in the water so pulling up to the bank after dropping the trailer off can be an issue. The fishing has been pretty slow yet. Averaging about three to four fish per outing. Drop me an email if you want further details Todd.
Good Fishing!

What part of "our", meaning SD state taxes, built the Missouri River impoundments? It would appear to me those impoundments have brought tremendous benefits in jobs, power generation, economic activity, recreational opportunity and aesthetics (raised property values also). Further, I thought it was a federal project. As I understand it "out of staters" can't catch any fish anyway, except the ones that catch all the fish and ruin the fishery...

Of course, maybe I should try to raise the awareness of boats that show up in the morning, eve, morning, eve in a tailrace that are obviously local folks. No one has more than 8 fish in the freezer.

Personally, I have friends everywhere and welcome people to Nebraska also. I like to hunt and fish out of state and encourage others to also. It's a, what's the word, "Free" country. As sportsman, we should try harder to work together, make new friends, and share the resources. I count South Dakota as one of the most beautiful and friendly states there is, the people are also fantastic.

But then again, maybe the part of SD you represent wants to go it alone against barge traffic ramifications?

Oh well, good fishing Mr. Anonymous.

In all seriousness, GOOD luck to you :)

I assume you live in Pickstown? Hate for you to live anywhere else and make the locals mad. (That's sarcasm)

Being a lifelong SD resident it still amazes me at the ignorance that some people portray. All anyone has to do to see the impact of the non-resident sportsman is stop at Cabelas, Scheels, Webster, SD or any other area effected by sportsman. Without the non-resident, the impact to the economy would be horrible. Without the revenue generated from non-resident liscenses, the amount of public hunting land would be greatly diminished and without federal tax dollars there would be no Missouri River ****s. I have had incidents with non-residents but I have had more problems with LOCALS who seem to think they have the RIGHT to fish/hunt every public area all by themselves.

Non-residents PLEASE continue to visit South Dakota.

SDDan, Thanks for the invite! Apparently you are one of the many fine and friendly people I have met in S. D. I'm sure I will continue visiting your state. It's always a fun time.

Now boys, lets all play nice.---I think 'not happy' was pulling your chain. My home is only 25 miles from Mobridge, and I'll post when they start hitting this spring. ---By the way, the ice fishing has been prety good I hear.

swede, Do you think there will be a pre-spawn bite in the Mobridge area this year, or will one need to wait until after post-spawn in the May 10th to 15th range? Let us know when the bite starts up after ice-out.

If we get a Smelt run just after ice out, the bite will be slow because of all the bait they have to eat. If the smelt don't run, things will start as soon as the ice goes out.------I hope the first bite is slow. Its been too long sence we've had a good smelt run.----The fish this fall were bigger and fatter than they have been for a long long time. Now the problem is lake access. The lake is down so far its hard to find a working boat ramp.
