I am looking for the best quality battery for my 24v trolling motor. I can get a size 31 in the space. I have read about evertroll but I am not spending $600 per battery.
Thanks

I'm sort of in the same boat (no pun intended). I have used Stowaways (size 29 in a 12 V system) for the past few years and have been happy with them. The new Stowaway Tournament is a size 31, no maintenance-sealed type, with the largest reserve capacity (205 minutes) that I have seen. Add to that a very good price ($63 at Sam's Club). My question is has anyone used these? Are they as good as they sound for the money? I'm looking to get two batteries for my new 24V Pinpoint.

You may want to look into the agm batteries. I just purchased some group 27 size from Bass Pro for $160 each. The reserve capacity on these was the longest I found at 175 minutes. AGM's are supposed to last much longer than wet cells and also recharge quicker. Also maintenance free. Good lUck! Fred

How about the starting/deep cycle batts they sell at Walmart. I looked at one this weekend and it had over 200 res. min. are they a good choice or do they compromise something?

As long as you use it as a DeepCycle battery. They are not a Starting Battery. Even though it says it is -it isn't...

I'm in the same boat, too. Please keep the comments coming in...great question.
I've had a dual purpose Exide as a starting battery on a 90 HP Merc for five years and don't plan on replacing it this season either. The thing just won't die.
What are you talking about?

I've been using the 31 series Trojan Deep Cycle batteries for 4 years now and have never run out of power.

I agree,the Trojan SS225 is a deep cycle battery with a 225 min reserve.It is a group 31 and they run $100 a piece.

I've used Interstate 31's for the last 4 years and am now on my 3rd set, obviously I would not advise purchasing Interstates. My next battery's will be the Trojan 31's. The only reason I've hung with the Interstates is they where replaced under warrantee. Gotten to be quite a hassle getting Interstate to back there battery's. Last one developed a dead short and when you're running a 24 volt system you have to try to keep the battery's matched, or the worst battery will ruin the new battery. So trying to get 2 battery's when one goes bad has become somewhat of a headache...
AC DElcos available at Kmart and auto part stores. Maintenance Free, Priced Right and have lasted long for me. Although i have had no problems, its nice to have a common brand so when you take a trip there is a replacement nearby just in case. Currently have a Group 27 and 30 and the 30 is big, but lasts long.

Okay, who makes and who sells Trojans? I've never heard of them or seen them. They sound like they might be an excellent option with that kind of reserve power. I said the Stowaway tournament with 205 reserve was the best I had seen but this is obviously better. Thanks.

The trojans are definetly the best deep cycle's on the market. Most battery specialty stores carry them. If you are paying more than $80.00 for the 225 you are getting ripped. 75% of the PWT pro's run trojans.

Trojan SCS series are the best bang for the buck for me. I have used them for the last 2 seasons and have been very happy with them. I looked into AGM (absorbed glass mat) and Gel batteries but from what I learned, the wet cell acid battery still is the best value. Several of the other batteries are good batteries but you need a special charger to get the maximum performance out of them. The typical on board charger will work but they are not designed to charge as required for the AGM or Gel batteries. You can call 1-800-423-6569 for Trojan in California or 1-800-246-2550 in Georgia to find a dealer near you. Good luck

PURCHASED STOWAWAYS FROM SAMS CLUB AND HAVE HAD EXCELLENT LUCK WITH THEM. THIS WILL BE MY 4TH YEAR ON THIS SET AND STILL LOOK GOOD. CHECK SAMS AS THEY ALSO HAVE REBATES ON STOWAWAYS EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE. WHATEVER BRAND YOU CHOOSE MAINTAIN THEM AND USE A QUALITY CHARGER. SEEMS TO MAKE THEM LIVE LONGER FOR ME. GOOD LUCK

Are the Trojan batteries sealed-no maintenance or do you have to add water periodically?

Trojan SCS batteries are a wet cell and you need to check the water in the cells occasionally.

I've used "the one and only" group 31 deep cycle battery's as my trolling motor battery for years...these battery's are built with a heavy duty commercial case, have 145 amp hours, a 24 month warranty, with one year free replacement...reasonably priced too at under $90.00 each...polar power's "the one and only" deep cycle battery is distributed by the altra power battery company in thief river falls, mn 218-681-8425 ask for pat or darin....the battery's are built by voltmaster in iowa. I've trolled with these battery's without charging for three to four days of fishing....they last!

If you want the best battery you can not beat the Trojan scs 225, This battery will give you lots of run time to kept you on the water longer and the life cycles 300-1000, this is how many times you can discharge and charge the battery. If you look at this on others they do not have as long of life. Bass & Walleye magazine did a battery comparison on 11 brands. They said( Trojans top SCS models are reasonably priced yet offer more capacity than any other batteries in our chart. If you demand maximum trolling motor running time between charges, we can't guide you to batteries with more capacity at any price.) I have used them for three days pulling spinners with out a charge. hope this helps.

I agree with Mark B. The best trolling motor battery is the Trojan SCS 225. Trojan is the originator of the deep cycle battery back in 1952. They are used in most motor homes and in golf carts across the country. (and you know how many times golf carts have to be recharged) I've used them for over 10 years now. The best price I have seen for the 225 is 79.95 each. When all of our competitors on the PWT are dead in the water, Mark B., Bruce Deshano and I are still going. If you can't locate a source contact Mark or I.

I also agree with the Trojan batteries. You can't drain them. For a while when they are new they actually get better with every discarge and charge. If you are in northern Illinois or Sourthern Wisconsin I can get you hooked up

thanks for the trojan website info ... i guess the reason i hadn't heard of a local distributer is that the closest is six hours away in mpls.mn....anyone know of any in the northern third of minnesota?
