Update ! Fished this past weekend Big Bend (below Dam). Walleye were hitting pretty good especially at night. I used bottom bouncer, live bait rig, 3ft snell, minnows in 25 ft of water along rocks with limits caught (2 people) within an hour.

White Bass were very aggressive also. We had to get the bass of the hooks to get them out of the way for the walleyes.

I watched alot of people use crank baits and I think live bait worked better. One guy said he did try cranks and had the same results, better on live bait or jigs.

Came home with 18 Walleyes between my son and I, (Friday,Sat, Sunday) ..Great Weekend!

Fished Friday above the dam...caught our limit at the Grain Bins drifing with bottom bouncers and minnows. Fished Saturday and also limited, but water was rough. Fished West Bend area with bottom bouncers, Lindys and minnows. Needed three drift socks to keep control on Saturday...not an act of bravery, but an act of stupidity, however we did have fun doing it.

And yes, Franky...the possession limit is 8 fish per person. Be sure to check your regs before you fish...dont get in trouble and lose your license and lose out on the good fishing.

Thanks for the Warning. I thought I understood the regs. Correct me if I am wrong.

Two of us fished 3 days.

Friday, me 3 fish, son 3 fish = 6 fish
Saturday, me 3 fish, son 3 fish = 6 fish
Sunday, me 3 fish, son 3 fish = 6 fish

Equals 18 Walleye total

Is this okay??????

Strange that the posession limit is 8, yet the daily limit is 3. Usually the posession limit is some multiple of the daily.

So you can catch 3 per day, and have a total (including the ones in the freezer at home) of 8 fish in your posession?

I dunno about the possesion limit details..I think it means you can have 8 fish in your live well, but only take home 3 for the day.

Is that correct?

It used to be 8 in possesion and keep 4 for the day.

Most fish were 15 inch limit or above..Our biggest was a 19 1/2.
I think we only caught 3 or 4 under 15 to release.

Past years I remember going through alot of 13, 14 inch fish. Fish must be getting bigger now??? I had one fish that had 4 minnows in his mouth they were really really hungry I guess.

That would be incorrect. If you fish 3 days and catch your 3 keepers the first 2 days, you can only keep 2 on your third day to take home. This is assuming you did not have a fish fry on one of the nights you were there.

You can have 4 people in the boat and have 12 fish in the livewell. That is a daily limit for all 4 people.

x(

When they changed the limits on the river, it did make things more confusing. It used to be 4 fish a day or 8 in possession, which was simple, 2 days' limit. Now you can still keep 8 fish, but you have to fish 3 days to do so.

That almost means you can catch and eat the fish to be always under the possession limit???

I think I get it now...

I am always confused.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Here is the link for the regs.

http://www.sdgfp.info/Publications/FishingHandbook.pdf

This should clear things up. Yes, possession is 8, but only three per day.

Check page 17 of Acrobat (page 21 of booklet)...it gives info on limits for walleyes there.
