we'll be hitting the water friday and heard of tons of fish near W Sister but not much size, trying to decide whether to go that way or possibly Fairport area- Ive heard spotty reports that way for the eyes with some bullets mixed in. If anyone could confirm or deny either Id appreciate it to help decide.
Thanks

The islands have been on fire. You can sort through the throwbacks and keep plenty of nice fish.

Wow, which island are you at? Fished all around WS and only caught 2 eyes for 6 hrs of fishing. Tried casting, trolling and praying... LOL Didnt see the charters that were drifting catching any either.

We'ere not having any trouble catching either. I fished both Monday & Tues. casting Gold harnesses. Boxed 42 Monday and 36 Tues. Short day on Tues. guys had to leave
If I agree with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Sounds like soomeone is still bitter over a bad day of catching. The guys are only trying to tell you that there are fish out by West Sister. If I where you I would NICELY ask them how they caught them and maybe they would try to help you out.

We took a 12 fish limit from just NW of West Sister last saturday morning in 28-29ft. Only 2 throwbacks. All fish between 18-24". Pulling 30 jets and spoons back 45ft off a big board and 2 dipsies size 1 set at 3-1/2 back 55ft. Hammered copper boy/girl scorpion stinger was red hot. Trolling speed 2.2. Was done in about an hour. Found active pod of nice fish and made 3 passes to finish.

You might want to change your decision. We boxed a 3 man limit wed. west of rattlesnake in abot 30 ft of water. We threw back probably 40 undersized eyes, many sheephead, perch, and nice sized white bass. We were bringing in fish all day. Biggest eye was about 25 inches. All came on spoons trolled at about 2mph. Large dipseys w/o ring set on 3 setting 70-85 ft out, jet diver 30 at about 100ft back. We use fireline on our linecounters, small Scorpion Blueberry muffin color, and Stinger Kevorkian colored spoons. The Central basin right now is to hit or miss. Yeah, you could get lucky and run into some hogs, but more than likely you won't get any consistant action. Give it another week or two, then try off of Eastlake or Fairport. Ashtabula last year didn't get good for us until July, and late August was best.
