I'm really getting tired of banged up alum. props. Does a s.s prop ,because it is so ridgid, have the potential to damage the gears in the lower unit?
I always thought I'd rather lose a prop than a lower unit, but now I'm re-thinking.
Thanks,

YES!!!!! The stainless will not break away if you hit a rock and WILL cause more damage to a lower unit than any aluminum prop on the market.

The stainless merely gives you less flex and better performance in open water conditions. Unless you have real good insurance, stick to the aluminum the way water levels are this year.

p.s. You never said why you bang up your prop so much??? Well?

I've gone a couple of years without scratching a prop, but I ruined two this week on the Mo. River. It can get frustrating. Big rocks and a huge tree just under the surface.

If you are hitting rocks you absolutely don't want a SS unless you have major bucks available to fix your lower unit everytime you hit the rocks. The aluminum props (actually all props) are a pain to get fixed but still a lot less of a pain that having to fix or replacea lower unit.
