Going to Pierre on our annual Fall fishing trip in September and we have been launching out of the Farm Island or the City Marina for many years for the long run downsteam. I am familiar with the Ft. George and DeGrey ramps. I would like to know if the road to West Bend south of Hwy. 34 is gravel? Also, is 1806 from Ft. Pierre to Iron Nation blacktop or gravel? Back in the late 1970's-early 80's we fished Iron Nation often but there were some locals who hasseled us pretty bad. Is it now safe to leave your truck, etc. at Iron Nation during the day? Is there a boat ramp at North Bend? Thanks for any information.

woody, Don't try to use the North Bend or De Gray boat ramps as they are shallow and note worth the trouble. The Ft. George ramp is somewhat on the shallow side, but should be ok, unless they is a very strong wind from the south. The road south of hiway 34 to West Bend is now black top, so that should be a good option also. Good luck and give us a report when you get back. The bite sounded pretty slow a week ago, but should begin improving.

Thanks for the info and will report our results later. What about 1806 fromFt.Pierre to Iron Nation ,and any problems with locals for a day trip?

It is blacktop all the way to West Bend. Easy to launch... you won't have a problem at the West Bend ramp.

It is also protected from wind/waves.
