Didn't get out on sat until about 2pm. It was rough with solid 3-5s so went perchin. Didn't do squat 1.75 mi out of vermilion. Moved again, didn't do squat off Ruggles for perch either.
Sunday it was calm so we headed out to the 38-19 line for eyes. Pulled 3 keepers (barely) and 2 shorts for 8 hours of trolling east and west of the bar. Either the fish moved or they weren't in the biting mood. The water looked good and the waves cooperated but the fish didn't. Only one area looked good on the graph it was 38-40 and 18-20N. But, the fish didn't want what I was pullin.
I talked to a very friendly fellow by the name of EXEXEC and he didnt do anything either. I was in the general area as POOh Bear and several other charters. Sounded like it was slooooooooooow in general.
Good luck, lets find em boys!

I was out there with you on Sun heard you and exexec on the radio but I didn't have anything to add. Very poor.
I did go 0 for 1 on a steelhead in at the 32/15. Other than that not even a sheephead.
Worst year for me in a long time.

Thanks Liquid courage, I think I heard someone say that they had an "Early season steelhead", maybe that was you.
Anyway, is liquid courage your call sign on the radio? I'll be fishing out of vermilion the rest of the season and we'll pass info.
I'll be out this fri, sat, sun and poss monday if the weather cooperates.
Good luck and thanks for the report.

I think reply here is my best reply. I thought when I got 13 a few weeks agao it was on-but guess again. Maybe this cooldown will help-I may try inshore one night late this week or next.

I would recomend trying Astabula if you are able to trailer your boat. Jeff and I have caught limits of large eyes every weekend. If you are able to go and need numbers, let me know.

rathrbfishin,
We have a boat we're thinking about trailering to Ashtabula or Conneaut. I've only fished for smallmouth east but have planer boards, dipsies and jets and only had a little success with them. (Still learning) Any info would be great and where to stay around there.
Thanks

The fish were very scattered this weekend, I am not sure what to recommend right now. The thermalcline was gone and that is what I usually target.
In Ashtabula, there is nothing that caters to fishermen except campgrounds. I have heard of a place on the lake in
conneaute that has a cleaning station and room to park your boats. We always launch out of the Ashtabula City Park ramp(11 north to the end, turn right and the first left will take you to the park, WARNING, it is very shallow in the fall, 1.4'), or Geneva State Park.
I prefer to use worm harnesses. To get the depth use 50 jets, 40 jets with a 2 oz weight attached to it, big dipsies or bottom bouncers.
I hesitate to recommend numbers, because I am not sure where the fish are, if the lake is still warm enough to stratify, there are a lot of variable that I am not sure of. I wish I lived close to the lake so I could fish more than weekends.
I am hoping the Huron bite will turn on so we don't have to drive so far.
Sorry I do not have more to share, I am relying on the reports this week to make a decision on what to do.
Also, monitor channel 68, usually the guys are generous with information.
