Anyone using the EZ steer System to connect your main motor with a kicker and if so whats your opinion ? I've been looking at this one because my kicker is mounted on the starboard side. Any other systems available ?

Thanks Jim !

E.Z. Steer works very well. It is my primary trolling steering from my Volvo I/O to 15hp Honda. Hydraulic connections make easy on and off. Some guys keep the bar connected at all times, but I remove during a run. It has a pressure "shock absorber" if too much pressure is applied. I had good response from the factory when I needed a new bracket when I switched from a 15 Evinrude to the Honda; they took my order over the phone and received within 5 days. I suggest mounting the bracket on your kicker a little off center towards the main motor to allow a little more clearance for sharp turns.

I use and like the Steering system by Goldeneyeproducts.com. It is a little morre money but lets you steer only the kicker from anywhere in the boat. Used one all last year and have sold several pros on them. Great for handlining where you have to sit in the back of the boat or when you are netting a fish and need to made a direction change.

The unit is named "electro-steer" by Panther Marine products a division of Goldeneye. I also highly recommend this product. as well as their kicker lift. The way to go. Good luck

Jim,
I use the EZ Steer to connect my Merc Bravo III outdrive and Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke kicker on my 25'Carolina Classic. It works GREAT. You can steer the kicker from the helm manually, but what is really nice is that my Raytheon AutoPilot can control both the big motor and kicker. I've never had any reason to take the bracket off but it does remove easily - I checked just in case.

The E.Z. Steer System works great, but I feel it's a little expensive. There are other systems out there that will do the job just as good, at half the cost. What I didn't like about the E.Z. Steer, is that you had to hang over the back of the boat and try to hook this darn rod to the motors. This could be dangerous if the lake is rough, so what I did was rig up a rod and a couple of swivels, buy yourself a braquet for your kicker motor, and hook this rod to the two motors in the front. I think Cabelas still sells this rod I'm talking about. Give it a try, it's a lot cheaper, and it's a lot safer hooking it up, compared to the E.Z. Steer.

Sparky,
I REALLY like my Carolina. I'd highly recommend it for the Great Lakes. I've fished out of most of the common Great Lakes boats (Albemarle, Grady White, SportCraft, Baha, Wellcraft, Thompson, etc.) and the Carolina is my overall favorite for my type of fishing - 90% trolling - big boards, dipseys, downriggers. I primarily fish Erie for eyes and steelhead but take a few trips to Michigan or Ontario after Salmon every year. Email me if you want more info, specifics.

I like the ez steer. Very good qhality, and easy to install. And no, you don't have to lean over in rough water to connect it, you can connect it before you launch or take off from your slip. You can raise or lower either motor and leave them connected, because of the special ball connections:the cheaper units do not have this feature.
