Can you explain what you mean when you say East. I am planning a trip this coming weekend.

The previous e-mail means "east" like Ashtabula or Geneva. The sandbar bite is still slow and the fish are small. Hopefully this will change soon. The winning weight in today's tournament out of Huron was only a little over 11 lbs for 5 fish. We caught 8 keepers, and our 5 tournament fish weighed a little under 8 lbs at the 27/28 line. We didn't fish the bar. The big fish in the Huron Boosters tournament was around 4.75 lbs with 20 boats fishing. Nine five-fish limits out of 20 boats. That's tough.
I am not ready to take up bowling, but I am looking at some bowling balls and shoes. The Optimist carried our team today consisting of Hawkeye/Ladybride and The Optimist. Had fund even though the fishing was crummy. Congrats to Denny Braun's group on their win.

Just talked to Big Al J out of Geneva. Fished from 2:15 till dark and boated 11 and lost 6 hook ups with a mixed bag. Also a good report that a charter did 28 out of Vermilion not sure of numbers (28 fish).

Thanks Hawk Eye, I just wasn't sure. Because I have fished the Ashtabula area this year I have an ideal what numbers I need to find when I'm on the water. Hopefully the fish will still be in that area next weekend. Thanks again

Got 9 yesterday around the 38/25 line. All fairly small-I hope we get some cooler weather soon-the water was still almost 72 out there. I saw a large pack just NE of me-anyone do anygood out there?

Just got some reports from charter friends who did very well on perch and eyes Sunday and that the bite was good today. Was told the best eye bite for them was 18 - 20 out of Huron NW of the bar.

Yes, the bite on the sandbar was where several tournament boats did well on Saturday: 34-35/20-24. These fish are still unfortunately small eaters of 15-18 inches. I saw several of the charters come in at the Vermillion River on Sunday- some of the best captains - and the biggest fish was 4 lbs.
We need the fish that Freebyrd refers to as "eaters that can feed a family of four" to show up from Ashtabula. On Sunday, a friend did poorly out of Ashtabula, so maybe the big ones are headed west finally. Let's hope so.

Jeff and I fished out of Geneva Sunday and it was tough. We had seven and they were late morning bites. It was actually relaxing, unfortunatly. They were on the bottom and shallow. 68 - 70' and we were catching at 20 - 30'. I heard a 33" 12# monster taken off of the bottom. I must admit, I was quit envious! Congrats to the one who reeled it it!!
They seemed very scattered. It would be nice if the Huron bite would pick up, it saves two hours of road time.
Not sure where we will fish this weekend, Geneva or Huron???
Weather permitting, the only thing I am certain of, we will be fishing.
