We were probably one of the other boats today...worked hard for 3 + a throwback....I don't think it is going to turn on this year...at least anything like the past.

Did either one of you mark fish? I hoping with the colder nights that it starts but from the reports, I wonder how many Walleye are really still in this lake especially seeing what I saw in the spring by the Spillway. That was well over 100 volnerable very large Walleye taken with Sonars. If that was in a day, imagine what kind of dent was put in the population over a two week span. Tom what kind of boat do you have? I will be fishing in the same area. Spunk

Some of the shops I contacted are not even open. What does that tell you. Gonna watch the weather. Will probably head off Wildwood Marina to catch some Jumbo Perch or the Chargin or Grand River for Steelhead trout that are now in the river.

gateway bait was still open this past weekend and so was poffs, i think they tore the building down where overton,s was and i,m not sure about duck and drake but if i had to guess i would say they are still open but less hours, like i said i,m gonna try the south end around jamestown and work my way north with blades and if no takers i,ll pull the leadcore out and try that...............good luck.

Do you guys think maybe its slow due to the thousands of floaters during the summer?

I would have to agree with Spunkeye. What is hurting that lake the most is the amount of fish being taken at the spillway when the walleye are real vulnerable. It's about a two week period in early spring that they hang out around the spillway and are caught in masses like the first day of trout season. If they honestly want the fishing to get better then they (Fish commision) should close the lake for this brief period to allow these fish to move back out into the lake. I've seen 40 plus fish meausring 18+ inches taken in just hours. Imagine that over a 2-3 week period. That is what is wrong with Pymatuning, but you don't hear to much about it. For some "anglers" it's the only time they fish the lake...

100 a day for two weeks, you guys might be stretchin the truth just a little bit....... I've been there myself for the last few years, (like all of you that have "Seen" it)and can say that eyes are caught there and because of the confined space at the spillway, people like to get worked up and complain over that spot. Thats not the only spot thats like that in the spring, though

What about the 1000's of floaters this summer (all reported to be the big ones 18"+)do any of you think the rapid increase in water temp, unsuitable for walleye's cool water oxygen requirements, had the real effect on the numbers, or was it because they haven't been stocking the numbers of eyes in that lake to sustain the walleye populations that we were all used to in the mid 90's

No, there's no stretching of the truth. I do agree with you about the 500-600 adults that were lost to the warmer waters this year, but that's not something that can be controlled. What can be controlled is the amount of fish that get pulled from the spillway during this short period of time.

Anyone get out with any results? I'm sure the dead floaters didn't help matters much with many adult Walleyes stressed from the heat and lack of oxygen but I was also told by the owner of Shorehaven cottages that when they stocked it last year, many small fry were shocked with the temperature change and were seen floating also. I guess from the year before the stocking didn't take either. I'm not convinced that the explosion of an Alwive population and the Amish taking whatever size is whats causing the depletion. I did not get a chance to get out but it was pretty windy yesterday with Lake Erie at 5-8 footers. Maybe this Wednesday with temp around 71. Any reports would be appreciated! Thank you

it just seems like ur mad becuase you aint catchin any fish you greedy jagoff. Do you really know how many walleye are in that lake and just because your not catching them doesnt mean they are not there. Dont worry about it if the fish commission really thought catchin the fish over at the spillway was such a big problem like you do they would do something about it and everyday last spring when we were catchin them fish he stoped in a few times to see everyone. To tell you the truth ur just mad u aint catchin fish. And i dont think the fish dieing hurt the population. Maybe in the long run becuase they were big breeder fish but i dont kno wat to tell you there is noting to do about it. The fish commission will take care of it and stock more this year.
