ron...i'm real happy for your grass...my local mole population had decimated mine so i dont have to stay home and mow any longer...on my deathbed i will likely thank that mole for all the extra fishin days he provided me with!!!!...so you stay put and watch the blades of autumn slowly creep up so that your wife will have a serious discussion on your being around the home to care for the grass, and i will settle for eating a freshly caught perch dinner for two...steve

Hey you two. My buddy and I are going to fish the St. Joe out of Berrien Springs next week on a charter boat.
We are planning to take our own boat and fish Sunday. What kind of tackle and what fishing technique should we expect. Can either of you fellow Hoosiers help us out?

If your going on a river charter on the St.Joe at Berrien Springs for Steelhead and Salmon you will be working the current with either or both spawn and body baits.(hot-n-tots,wiggle warts and the like)(short fast wobble type) Typically they fish above a hole and let the current work the baits. For this I would recommend good sensitive 6'6" - 7'6' spincast riggs and 12 pound line with a lighter leader at the end for working(walking) spawn. The body baits can be run on the same riggs but some prefer baitcasters. Some like to run heavier line but you will get more bites with lighter line and with a good reel and drag you will get those fish in the net as long as you dont try and horse them but instead enjoy the fight. If you want to go up to the dam and cast body baits and spoons I would recommend heavier line as you will have to control the fish more due to other boats and anchor lines and the bouy cables. Good luck.
