We were there last weekend and fished both days. With the nice weather, the usual spots were packed with boats. We live baited and pulled cranks. Caught more fish on live bait, but nicer fish on the cranks with one eight pounder. Seemed most of our fish on live bait were sauger while the cranks produced all walleyes. Seemed like they would turn on and you would see boats all around pick up a few and then they would shut down and you wouldn't see anything for awhile. Definately wasn't a numbers game for us, but the fish we did catch were all nice sized. Had trouble catching the fish under 18.

clm - what areas were hitting? How deep were you trolling? Thanks for the reply. Sounds like it's worth a shot.

I only fish this area about once a year, so I don't know the local names of all the areas, but we pulled the cranks on the face of the dam anywhere from 20 to 16 feet. The live bait fishing mostly occurred on the Nebraska side, near their ramp/marina area. We worked the entire shelf from 13 feet to 26 feet. Most of our fish came in 17-21 feet on a jig and minnow. Alot of people were using bottom bouncers and snells/spinners and were catching fish also. Also fished the area directly outide of the marina (s.d. side), north to the state park area. Hope this helps and good luck.

The water temp last night was still in the upper 50's and the bait fish have not staged very well yet. Saugers ( as stated )have been the promenent catch with live bait and are just really starting.
They are usualy a day time bite.

The beach drop off just west of the marina breakwater has been producing w/ slip bobbers and jigs evenings or sooner with cloudy days. (31' up to 10') with most fish hanging in there at about 20'

The next beach west ( midway ) has been producing pretty well the last week and 1/2 as well as gavens point ( next beach west )

Most people have been successfull both dragging plugs and jigging
with the warm water. The plug bite should slow down a bit since it is predicted to be chilly here this weekend.

Mindthe traffic since hwy 52 is still under construction with plenty of trailers on narrow lanes and the deer are starting to get active.

Good luck ... enjoy your SD eyes.
