Trolled for 4 hrs with one 16.5" walleye to show for it. Started at 27/27 and headed NE. Dipsys & spoons, Deep RR's, crawler harnesses. Too rough for my 16 footer so I called it quits early.

Caught only three at the 32/24 line. One was least five lbs, and two more dinks. Fished for steelies for three hrs at the mouth of the Vermillion River and got one. The walleye bite this fall has been brutal....are there any big fish down there?? Hard to believe given it's November 1.

I second the brutal bite this year out of Huron/Vermilion. Some of the big charters are "limiting out" but they fail to say that they are catching limits of 1.5 lb. fish that tape out at 17 inches.

But, if you want perch the south side of the sand bar has been excellent at 32-33/17.

My guess is that the big fish will arrive in about 2-4 weeks just about when the snow starts to fall.

The sad thing is that the DNR and the scientists dont think that more than doubling the commercial fishermans quota affects the amount of large fish in the lake.....................

Good luck all and I hope someone is catching big eyes somewhere...........................it aint in western lake erie that's for sure.

I hope it explodes soon and I eat my words.

I agree Paul.
Spent Sunday drifting 30-33N/33-26W and finally found a small pod of active fish 28/26. All 17"r's with 1 - 22"r.
Too many tricks, where are the hawg treats ?
I finally got to "see" a 29"r at the dock - caught at the 30/30 area Sunday. Lord grant us patience!

Paul, I have fished out of Huron for 12 years and this is by far the toughest season I have personally seen. I remember that 2001 was tough - that followed the phenomenal year of 2000, which may have been the best in the last decade - but 2005 has been marked by a lack of big fish that by now shouldn't be the norm.

I can't come up with any more excuses either...there is enough oxygen, the lake temps are fine, the fish are gone from Ashtabula, the lake was fishable over the weekend etc etc etc. On Saturday, The Optimist and I caught 7 with all the fish 20 inches or less. If we didn't have the great 2003 hatch, I would be very concerned about future years. As we all know, the 1982 hatch sustained the fishery for a LONG time with big fish, and biologists say the 2003 hatch is second only to 1982.

Many very good captains on Sunday didn't even limit on the 17-20 inch fish. On Sunday, several had only 5-10 fish with 12-14 rods out trolling for 7-8 hours.

I will still do the night fishing thing, and hope some nicer fish show up. I would even take a big sheephead at this point to see a rod double over. We probably have been spoiled by Erie's great walleye bounties of the past.

I don't like the increase in the commercial limits at all but come on we just came off a good year last year and a fabulous spring this year and the lake is in trouble because we increased the limits? I don't think so !!!!
Buddy has been smacking them pretty good at Kelleys Schoal at night, including some nice fish. And, the boys over east were crowing all season; the fat lady ain't singing yet.

the reason its so bad is becasue Denied left town.

I agree, I'm fresh out of excuses too. My sonar was showing me multiple pods of big fish arches out there saturday AM. You'd think if they were sheep they'd at least nibble the meat I was offering.

How much of a bribe would it take to get Dean back do you think?

I like the Denied accuse for tough fishing too. At least it gives me another theory, and reason to still believe the lunkers are around the corner. Dean must have sent bad karma into the depths of Lake Erie when he dry docked Denied forever !!!

Come back Dean.

We fished both Saturday and Sunday out of Vermilion. Fished west side of sandbar on saturday and took 8 small ones, mostly all on spoons with "cat/dog" being the "hottest". Sunday we trolled more west and took 8 more , but took all day and again, mostly small fish. Ran reefrunners on one side and they took 3 of the 8 fish. One came on a bubblegum reefrunner, 80' back and two came on a gold prism reefrunner with a red rear treble hook about 110' back. Couple more came on downrigger/spoon. took no fish on jets on sunday.

I camp in the same campground that Dean did and I haven't talked to anyone that has heard a word from him. We sure miss them at Family Camping too.

I've been hearing small reports that some are doing well at night on shore. Some real nice fish too. So they are there. Huron Pier and by the police station in Sandusky just as it's getting dark. Clown Husky Jerks

I'm going to follow you and get your stragglers.

We had 5 boats last week and I'd expect we'll double that tomorrow night.
