I am looking to purchase a new rod for running bottom bouncers. What should I look for? Casting or Spinning? Size? Power? Action? Manufacture? regardless of price.
Thanks

Depends on the weight of BB you commonly use-but here's what I like for a 1 1/2 to 2oz. BB----I prefer a casting rod/reel with a flipping switch-allows you to push down the release bar to adjust the line out without turning the handle to reset the lock. Rod length 6'6" in Medium heavy butt and medium tip-I use some fireline-so use a little softer tip. Good fishing!!

Good answer Riceburner. After I discovered the application of flippin' switch baitcasters for bottom bouncers, my 5500s are only used for throwing and trolling crankbaits.
The triggers on my Shimano Spirex spinning reels are good for rigging, too.
Good bouncin'!

Check out Cabelas. They offer a combo that includes the new Quantum Accurist (low profile with a flipping switch) and a Cabelas XML rod for about $140. Real nice setup. Make sure you get a flipping switch. Makes all the difference in the world.

I helped design a custom built G-Loomis rod for Thorne Bros custom rod shop for just this purpose. It's starts as an 844 popping blank. They make any length you want, but mine are all 8' rods. I can talk about them but you really have to have one in your hand to appreciate them. I can feel a #2 indiana blade turn in 50' of water. It will handle everything from a half ounce to 4oz of weight pretty easily. I think either Mike Jensen or Joe Lundquist ordered a couple of their's with a little stiffer tip for heavy weights and boards.
Anyway, you can email me for more specifics or call Thorne Bros. The rod builder's name is Bill Fiebranz (651)572-3782

I highly recommend the Walleye Angler 7' rod that Parsons and Keith K have in Bass Pro. I have two and they work great. They also double very well for casting cranks.
I use a medium 6.5 foot shakesphere alpha w/inexpensive spinning reel(quantam I think), I drift and deadstick this rod. it has good backbone & a soft tip which is easy to keep an eye on with high vis line. often I hook as manny or more fish with this rod. it also works well for perching.
I use this rod becuase I have it and it works well period. this is about a $40 (or less) combo.
