Hi,
I would like to know if the Mercury 9.9 bigfoot will keep a constant speed without holding the the handle. I want to connect the 9.9 to the 90 hp so I can steer from the the drivers seat, but don't want to keep getting up to adjust the speed because it doesn't stay where I would like it to. Before I spend the money on an ez-steer I could use some help. If this is a problem does anyone have a solution ( not to expensive ) for this. Thanks to all who answer. JJ

Hi John.. I have a year old 15 Merc and I'd assume that the throttle on the 9.9 Big Foot is the same. There's a tension adjust knob on the handle that allows you to lock the throttle at any speed. I could be wrong, but that doesn't happen often! Good Fishing & See you in August..or before, Chris

John,

Here's my setup- 115 hp Evinrude Ficht and 9.9 Evinrude 4-stoke
tied together with a Goldeneye motor connector rod ($39.99 at Cabela's). I had an EZ Steer bar on my last boat ($148.00). I
like the Goldeneye bar because it connects the front of the motors via two quick-disconnect ball joints. With the EZ Steer I had to lean out over the back of the boat to connect or disconnect the EZ steer bar. I found this to be hazardous and always worried about falling in the lake or dropping bar into lake, especially with the 3 Foot swells on our Lk. Hopatcong!! For throttle control you could tighten the throttle tension adjustment knob equipped on your motor to maintain throttle at desired setting. Another option is a TR-1 trottle control from http://www.nautamatic.com/, which I have ($475.00-a bit spendy although excellent-no regrets). A third option is the TrollKing throttle control, $199.00 at Cabela's. Any questions, leave yoou email address. Hey have you had they opportunity to enjoy the FANTASTIC! wally fishing at Lk. Hopatcong and Monksville Reservoir in NJ? It took me some time to find the key to these waters. This past season I've had consistent catch & release success at both of these waters.

regards

Greg-NJ,
Haven't fished hopactong or monksville for eyes as of yet, any help you could give would be great. I do most of my walleye fishing on Lake Ontario in May and June. With my new 9.9 I would like to fish Monksville during the summer and fall and hopactong at the same time of year. All my eye fishing was done on Greenwood Lake with jigging spoons in December. Caught eyes and smallies in 40+ ft. of water at that time of year. E-mail me at the above address and we can talk about walleye fishing on these places. I am very interested to find out about our eye fishing here. Talk to you soon. JJ

i have a similar problem with my new 9.9 evinrude on my aux bracket....the word i got was that the osha regulations force the outboard co. to do away with constant throttle higher speeds for safety...my throttle will slow down as soon as i take my hand off of it....so i have to devise ways to keep it going at trolling speeds or it slows down to less than one mph....supposedly they make a throttle screw device that will hold the handle throttle in place but i called the co. and played phone tag for like a month...then they went bankrupt so i still have to solve this problem...steve

OMC does make a clamp for the handle that replaces some of the parts with a wing nut that can be tightened. I have one but can't find the info on what it's called. Your OMC dealer should be able to get you one and the cost wasn't too bad.

I don't know if this will work on your motor , but I use a direct link between my big motor and the kicker I also had dual throttles installed by the dealer (the kicker is electric start ) I operate both from the consoul,John I am curious Are you the same Jersey John that provides drag racing expertise for Al Akerman at 1320 enterprises ?

Sorry, I know nothing about drag racing. It must be someone else. I was given this nick name 9 years ago in northern Maine on my annual deer hunt. GregNJ if you see this e-mail me and we could talk about fishing the NJ lakes. Thanks for all the answers. JJ

The OMC part is: Throttle Friction Clamp P/N 174741. Works great.
