Hi all, even though i'm not a regular poster i decided to send in my report.

First to avoid the drama, i let all my walleye's go this trip. They were all full of eggs and i don't care how successfull the spawn is, it's my right, just as if i wanted to keep them.

Anyway i wanted to be a little more specific. I fished deep water near the reefs, speeds 1.1 to 1.6 mph on the GPS. Best bait for me was the size 12 deep diving husky jerk in the trout color. I ran it from 80 - 100 back. Water temps were 38 - 39 degrees.

tight lines to all, AJ Johnson III, captain of the Sarah J

ps - my report with a pic is on Ohio Game Fishing dot com under FISHONAJ on the Lake Erie page...

Fishonaj,
Nice pic!
I thought I would get your advice, I am hoping to make the trip down to Besse Davis to fish on or around the reef this weekend. Is that the area you were talking about? If so, do you think it would be worth the drive from 20 miles norht of Detroit. I don't want to get skunked with such a long haul. How is the bite on the Michigan side. if you know?

Trainwreck - in all honesty my buddy wanted some eaters last weekend but i told him this is a C&R trolling trip and i want to target pre-spawn hogs so i don't have an updated jigging report.

Last year by this time they were tearing 'em up on purple jigs in the shallow reef areas by Davis-Bessie. I'd put in at Turtle Creek/Wild Wings area for your closest reef action.

In my report i said I fished deep water near the reefs. I'll give you a big hint it wasn't the near shore reefs. From D-B it's a pretty long run to were i was fishing. My best advice is have a plan before you put in. I give a few more tips on report on OGF.

If the weather permits i'll be back up in a few weeks to try again. Good luck and good fishing, AJ

Thanks for the input.

Last year we Jigged the reefs in early April and did really well, but that was last year. Anyway I will do some research the Turtle creek area and decide. Thanks again.

To avoid any confusion about how far away i am from catching "Davis Besse Eyes" i thought i'd post a few pics...

tight lines all, AJ

ps - if you look close in the one pic you will see the outside planer boards flag down and it's heading backwards being pulled by a hog.

I work this weekend but if the weather is ok i'll be up the following weekend. I monitor channel 79 and and you can call for FISHONAJ or my boat name the Sarah J.

My day off this week is looking to bring me to Indian Lake looking for saugeye spots. If you get out please post a report...

Well, I was just imformed that I am needed at work tomorrow as well! Good ol' Ford Motor Company, they always seem to wait until the last minute to tell you. My partner will be out there without me Saturday and I plan on going Sunday. I will post reports for both days.

Good job on the eyes there AJ...! I suppose that one makes up for the one you lost at CJ last fall. :)
BTW...I'm thinking the comments were directed at Gary Carpenter. He runs a charter service that goes by the name of "SARA J". I too wondered the same thing at first until I noticed the difference in spelling of the name.

Good Luck and Be Safe...See Ya...! :)

Hi Hook-N-Book, small world. Actually Travis who took over the Denied site heard me hootin' and hollering when i landed the 12.7 pounder. When i get excited i guess i'm not that quiet.

Last weekend at the big lake makes up for every fish i've EVER lost. Are you going up next weekend? Thanks for the heads-up that someone has a boat named sara j.

ARGEE - is it possible you could go under my picture and edit your comment about Gary? Change it to guy or AJ or dude for that matter. Did you get my email reply? Thanks for saying your sorry...

AJ,
Yep, it's been a long winter and I'm certainly ready to head to the lake. I'll be up this Wednesday (6th-10th). You can bet a 12+ lb'er will bring all the joy out of most people...I know I'd be thrilledto death. :) Again, good job and good luck this season.
Talk about a small world...I met Gary in Cincinnati at last years boat and travel show. He runs a couple of cat's on Erie...come to find out he had actually fished the "04 Hawgfest" out of Huron.

Good Luck and be Safe...See Ya! :)

AGREE, thanks for editing your post. I was sincere in inviting you out on a hog trolling trip. Email me if you can go this weekend if conditions permit.

Hook-n-Book i moniter channel 79 on Erie. I'm shooting to be back up the 8-10th. I'll call for you on the radio - AJ

Okay AJ,
That'll work...I usually monitor 79 or scan on that end of the lake.
The weather is looking spotty for the weekend, hopefully the wind will cooperate and the lake clears up a bit. It looks pretty muddy based on yesterday's satallite image.

Talk to ya later.

Good Luck and be Safe...See Ya...! :)
