Lots of different methods are used. But most guys that are into the fish use a twenty inch leader of ten pound mono line (twenty pound fire line or power pro main line to resist snags).A barrell weight of about 1/2 oz. to 1 oz./(+/-depending on flow)then a snap swivel.Rig should bump bottom every foot or so as it drifts..
The leader to a foating jig head (hot color varies but try pinks and whites or chartruese and white) and a 3"/4" twister tail.Take plenty of jigs..You will go through them!
ALWAYS~ALWAYS ALWAYS~ Anchor (off the bow) and try to position your boat so you are near a hole or depression where fish rest.Cast above the hole and let the rig drift into/through the hole on a tight line.(cast to ten o'clock and let it drift to 3 o'clock)tug/jig slighty every few feet as it drifts and try to feel for bites. They can be subtle so be on the ball...
Have fun and above all be safe!!That maumee can hurt you bad!Cold water/FAST current and shallow water add up to dangerous conditions...Remember to put all snagged fish back asap...Good luck and tight lines......Wahoo

Hi,
Went over the Maumee at Buttonwood today and the river is Low,this can be a problem with fishing from a boat.Call Gary at Maumee Tackle in Maumee Ohio and tell him what kind of boat(size)and he can tell you where the best place to launch is.We use 3/8 to 1/2 oz egg sinkers and 1/2 in twister tails when the River is low.

THANKS FOR THE COMEBACK GUY'S. EVERY BIT OF LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
IS MUCH APPRECIATED. I WAS LOOKING AT THE RIVER ON MAPQUEST
& SAW WHAT I THINK IS BLUEGRASS ISLAND? IS THAT RIGHT IN
MAUMEE? AND IS THAT WHERE THE WATER IS SHALLOWEST? LAST
THING WE NEED IS ANY ERRORS ON THE WATER WHEN YOUR NOT
FAMILURE WITH THAT AREA. LOOKING FOWARD TO COMING DOWN, I
ONLY GET EVERY OTHER SAT & SUN OFF TOGETHER SO I WANT
THIS TRIP TO COUNT. SEE YA 04/08/06

Hi,
The only place you can Fish Bluegrass from a boat would be at the Northeast end of it if the water is high enough for you to get that far up.Most of the fish caught at Bluegrass are caught in the rapids between the Island and Buttonwood.
