I have taken the family to S. Manistique for the last 5 years. Usually we are only able to get a cabin in July or August. We stay at the Northshore at the bridge right in town. We love it there. It is really conveniant staying close to town for the resturants, groceries, shopping ( for Mom and the kids), baitshops, plus you are fairly close to alot of travel sites. The Falls, Big Spring, Pictured Rocks, Soo Locks. This year we will hit the shipwreck museum at Whitefish Pointe. Being there so late in the summer makes the fishing a little tough, but I always manage to limit out on Pike and Walleye with an occasional Smallie. Throw in some Perch too. I have had most of my best luck around Norton Island. We go more for the getaway than the fishing. I fish StClair and Erie so I`ve been spoiled by the great fishing those bodies of water offer. We love it there and are going this year the week of July 15th. There are numerous resorts that surround the lake, but make sure you make reservations early. The UP travel planner has many resorts listed in their book. Good luck

BIGDEAL43: The fishing used to be great - not anymore /// that's my experience there these days with the fishing. The locals will tell you the fishing is good, business - until you pin them down - the lake has been fished hard without program to maintain these last years.

I agree with these guys. The lakes have seen better years. You are still only about 1 hour away from one of the best walleye spots in the country. Little bay De Noc. If you head over there get map of the bay and fish the edges of the reefs. I would tell you more but my roomates at school would kick my butt, there from Rapid River. Fishing will prob be a little tough when you go, were ever you go. good luck
