I don't think you have to go out nearly that far. I have been doing ok in 38 fow off vermillion river 1.6 miles.

That's good news I'm tired of driving an hour and half to the islands, what were you using?

drifted harnesses, Gold and purple were best colors. Fish were deeper in the morning, and suspended later in the morning. 2 of 3 trips in the past 2 weeks netted good results in the same general area. mostly the smaller "good eats" fish but also 3 Fish Ohios. Seemed like drifters were doing about the same as trollers.

Went North West out of Lorain on 6-11-06 6:30 am started to mark fish right away used big Dipsy's and down riggers, between 6:30am and 8:30am the Dipsy with a shrimp color Stinger Scorpion spoon worked best, 8:30am to 10:30am Dolphin and Holly Christmas on the down riggers was what was hot, had our 2 man limit plus 3 catch and releases by 10:30am all between 15" and 20" great eaters!!!

Went out of Lorain (Black River) on Sunday June 11th and had my Dad with me, we set up trolling spoons behind jet 20's and jet 40's 70 feet behind in-line boards. We were about 3-4 miles out, 42 ft of water we caught a 30inch walleye within 5 minutes of setting up, then Dad got really sea sick and we had to go back in as nets were flying all around us. I would say the bite was on fire. Dad was ok, just needed to get back on shore.

Scott, its an area accessible straight out from Lorain, Ohio or Vermillion or Huron. Its probably anywhere from 7-12 miles out and covers a large area. Actually, I would say that most of the boats were fishing much closer in than the actual sandbar. It seems that straight out from BeaverPark marina (Lorain, Ohio) in 40-43 ft is where things were going good. But truth be told, anywhere from Vermillion to Avon has been producing great catches. I was at a bait shop this weekend and was informed that the 6 pack charter boats were going out and would be done in 2-3 hours with their 36 fish. Reports of excellent catches have been coming in from the islands area as well. The 2003 class is hungry and agressive and in schools.

The scale works because it's shrunk proportionate to the map.

Good Luck,
