The hatch isn't anywhere neer peek yet. They will be hatching to an extent for the rest of the summer but the heaviest part of the hatch will be for the next 3 to 4 weeks. If you watch the Toledo news during the weather report you can even see them on the radar. Every evening it'll look like it is raining over the lake.

thanks guys for the reply. i dont live in ohio, i live in indiana. you have the best of the great lakes. that is, between lake michigan and lake erie. i cant speak for the rest of the great lakes. so the bad news is that the flys will continue for a few more weeks. thanks again for the info. pepe....

I dont really think its bad news. I fish during the hatch and still catch fish.
i read somewhere that the mayfly hatch in close to shore in fairly shallow water and if you can fish out in deeper water you should do better. pepe...

There is probably quite a bit of truth to that Pepe'
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

What is a mayfly rig?

Basically a short single-hook crawler harness with small gold beads and a small gold blade. Put a small crawler chunk on the blade and add weight to make it castable if not trolling.

The hatch was very heavy Sat. nite. Length and severity of the hatch varies from year to year, but the fishing is good during the hatch. Fishing depends a lot more on the weather, location and presentation than it does the hatch.

PJ & Terror, I'm with you guys, some of my best days in the Western Basin have been tossing a gold weapon during the hatch.
