View Full Version : Cleveland - Crib
Went out today, managed to fill two limits in 5 hours - from 6:30 am to 11:30 am. Just North out of Edgewater in 53 fow past the crib. As soon as we got into 48-50 feet we picked up the junk fish. Trolled around 2.1 with purple/black/silver crawler harness. Copper and gold picked up some but the best combo seemed to be the purple/black with silver back blades - the most productive was on a chopper style blade. Lots of drifters in the area but I didn't think there was enough wind to be effective.

Good job
Thinking of taking the kid's out tomorrow evening. Do you think Dipsey's/spoons would also be effective? How about downriggers?
What kind of setup - setback were you using? Jets, Dipseys - downriggers with your harnesses?

I was out today out of Gordon Park. Went straight out to 56' of water and trolled south towards the small power plant until I hit 52' of water. At 52' I was out of the fish. Limited in about an hour once I found the fish. Number 1 dipsy with ring, 3 setting at 100 or 110 feet back. Small Stingers with pink and/or purple. Nice day to be on the lake.

What radio channel do you monitor?
I really think that any presentation is working out there right now. We were trying different things, dipseys (big ones, 3 setting, about 80-100 ft back) produced along with bouncers. Best producer was a simple in-line trolling weight followed by the harness. Anywhere from 2 to 6 oz. weight followed by a 6 foot flouro leader was doing the trick. Fish were caught on this rig with from 60 to 150 feet of line out. My dad caught a couple on an original flatfish (yellow w/ black spots) tipped with crawler behind his homemade bouncers.
Occasionally we would get two back to back but then it would slow and we would get one every 30 minutes or so. Once you find a spot where they are keep going back to it. It didn't take long to troll out of the little pods of fish. Watch your gps and get back to the same locations.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Great evening on the lake.
Kid's had a blast along with Grandpa, myself and a good friend.
3 mn limit just NW of the crib in 55' of water.
#1 dipsey on wire 75" back #3 dipsey on mono 120 back with small stinger spoons. 2 hours to limit - and then an hour of FUN fishing throwing back walleyes. I cannot remember the last time I threw back Walleye. Lake Erie is on fire, let's hope this is a sign of GREAT lake fishing for the future.
Thanks to all who pointed me in the right direction.

same story Saturday with Coolerking and GR a few miles N of the crib about 58 fow. 3 tickets in 1.5hrs. #3 setting on big dipsys 115 out and jet 30s 125 and 40s 100 worked. Color of spoons didnt seem to matter. Seems like anything will work. Where are the bullets?? We ran to 72ft of water and only found one.

Hats off to B.Thomas...Fastest limit on the eyeballs this
year! Nice "eaters", hard to find fish over 25"! Any opinion
on "upgrading" fish while trolling?? Just my opinion but i dont
think they live after sucking water??? Cleveland has been on fire
for 6 weeks, if you want a fish fry troll off Cleve! Dont know
how the "drifters" are doing!

Fished the crib Saturday AM, started in 52 and picked at em slowly got a good tip to go to 57 once there we filled our tickets pretty quickly. bullshark took a bunch of fish and big stinger copper trout, only ran 4 dipsey's, 3 1/2 setting 105-115 back and 1 1/2 77 back was really good, good talking to the crew again, will be back out soon enough to enjoy limits of eaters, hopefully they stay around so far so good.

I fished justa bit northeast of the crib Sunday morning. Started in 54 FOW where my buddy slammed them saturday, but couldn't find the fish.
Headed in to 51 FOW, and boated three tickets pronto. Lami Cakes and Confusion were the hot colors. Big Dipsies, 3 1/2, 100 back, and 0, 85 back.
