We target the steelhead again around mid to the end of sept but as always it depends on weather. If we start to get some cool nights and the lake temp starts to drop they will start to show up. Usually when the perch fishing takes off is about the time they start working back this way.
I've found that they seem come back a bit scattered. You can pop a fish here and there but nothing like when they are schooled offshore in June/July (central basin american side). We usually run a spread of spoons and shad raps or other cranks at varying depths. We've hit them as high as 10' and down to just off the bottom. You just never know.

Hi,
They should be coming back after Sept 1st if some are not in Ohio waters now.FreeByrd and ETC caught them in Canadian waters 6 miles from where we were getting them in Ohio Waters. The Limit in Ohio is 2 after Sept 1st.The last ones we caught in Ohio were at the 44.5 -10 line.

You can usually start picking them up pretty regular off the river mouths in late fall. Oct. and Nov. Don't usually fish in water over 20-25 feet at this time of year. Spoons run shallow usually just under the surface will put you in the zone. Just watch for the bait fish to come into the shallows and the steelhead will follow. Dipseys run high and away from the boat work very well also. Been doing this for more years than I can remember, and look forward to the late fall steelhead fishing every year.
hope this helps, see ya in the fall TRIPLE-J
