Four men and two boys are looking for a week of walleye fishing in North Dakota. We've been fishing in Ontario for fifteen years(camping on an island) but we're considering a trip that is not quite so tough on boats and gear. We've been told that reservoir fishing can be a real hoot. Can anyone steer us toward information on walleyes on the reservoirs? We would also appreciate info on camping possibilities, bait frequently used, guide services etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks...Mils

When it's full, our big reservoir has the most surface area of any reservoir in the US. It also aligns with the prevailing winds. This year, the water will be low. It will be low enough, some of the state parks, resorts, and city park ramps might be in trouble.
Sakakawea isn't the only fishery in the state, however. For information, try www.fishingbuddy.com or www.discovernd.com. Both will have a link to a list of ND fishing waters in the Game and Fish section.

You cant beat the state parks on Lake Sakakawea. I have been to the one's in Garrison & Pick City. Both great places. Also Dakota Waters Resort has excellent camping. They are located near Beulah. There is a state park there also. The PWT will be out there this summer too.

Sakakawea tactics include bottom bouncing, lindy rigging, jigging & cranking.

Another hot place is Devils Lake. They have a state park on the lake also. The winter fishing has been slow but summer's past have been down right awsome.

Check out fishingbuddy.com for more info on all ND waters and some resorts.

Speaking of Devils Lake parks, the access to Graham's Island from the west will be inconvenient this summer, to say the least. Highway 19 between Minnewaukan and the Graham's Island turnoff will be raised. No open lane. Detour around to the north on a county road, or go east of the city (a road through Ft. Totten is also being raised) and come to Graham's Island from the east.
This inconvenience is just after Graham's Island added 40 or so full-service campsites.
To know things like this, you have to read the Benson County Press.

Check out Lund's landing Resort on the northwest end of Sakakawea. They have cabin's and camping. Guide service with boats also. Super nice people. You can probably locate them through North Dakota game and fish.
