Am going to the Mississippi this weekend or next for the first time. Looking for the following info:
Where to launch the boat? We can go anywhere between Guttenberg and McGregor, maybe further north. Sny Magill is one place I have heard of.
Have heard a lot about fishing the wing dams. I have a DNR brochure that shows them. Any tips on safely operating the boat in there? Can you see them, for example? I have a 16.5 ft deep V hull with 50 hp Merc plus bowmount. It can run in 2 ft without hitting bottom, although I like to leave a safety margin. Can look up the water level at the Corps of Engineers site rivergauges.com.
What's a good bait shop? I have a DNR list that shows places in Guttenberg.
The Iowa DNR gives an on-line Fishing report every two weeks. The one on the Miss is very detailed. For the lakes I am used to fishing on, I find the DNR report to be highly hypothetical, accurate for some lakes, two weeks out of date for some, wishful thinking for others. Anyone else use the DNR site for the Miss?
Any other related advice would be welcome. Thanks very much.
