I just got to ugly Sticks and Dawia 47LC outfits that I will use for flat lining and or snap on weights or divers puling cranks. I am considering using Fireline 20lb with 20lb mono fill. Any one using this combination? Any comments!

Thank you

First, I always use 20# mono backing, the cheapest I can find.

I used to use 10# Fireline and it worked well for everything, except that I had some boards pop off. That problem is since corrected. Last year, I switched to 20# Whiplash which is the same diameter as 10# Fireline. Since it is a braid, there are less problems with boards. Power-Pro is a very similar line and seems to be more available than Whiplash.

This year, I respooled with 20# Whiplash on 2 reels and added 40# (I think, but it was equivalent 10# mono diameter) on 2 others. I pull a fair amount of dipsys for walleye as well as trout and salmon.

My only reservation on Superlines is that it takes you off the Precision trolling charts and I am not confident in the line conversion charts. Now I have a setup that is dead on the chart (40#) and a thinner line for faster setup. Best of both worlds?

Good Luck!

I started using 20lb powerpro and love the stuff. I can put about 450yds of it on a ambass 6500c4 reel and use it on a 7ft ugly stik. I could use mono backing but thought this would create more knots and after many re-tie's and breakoffs, would have very little line left. Started using better leader material, p-line, and have found that this stuff rocks compared to vanish. Vanish is worthless.
I looked at whiplash and noticed that the braid was not as tight as powerpro and could be easily pulled apart.
Braids just give you a better hook set and knowledge of lure compared to mono.

Artur, you have made some good choices in your intended equipment. I use this same set-up except my reel is the SG27LC. I have been switching over to 30 lb. fireline because it is 8 lb. diameter equivalent and it holds better in releases then.If you haven't already bought the Fireline you might check out the PowerPro line. It is round instead of flat and is supposed to hold knots better and also hold in releases better than Fireline. When you are trolling cranks, don't waste time with leaders. The fish will not be line shy. They either want it or they don't. They don't have time to worry about line diameter, color, or the material it's made of. Their concentration is on the lure and if it is at the right depth, speed, and color of what they are looking to eat. Cranks catch bigger fish!

P.S. Superlines will show you when a lure is fowled much more quickly than mono. Give it a couple jerks and usually the weeds pull right off.
