Just wondering if anybody caught this show over the weekend on TNN. One of the shows was Walleye trolling on Lake Erie. The two guys were BRuce from Off-Shore tackle and a walleye pro(I forgot his name, sorry). It looked like they were fishing off of Huron in December. Each walleye they caught came on a eriedescent reef runner. But when they said what tackle the guys were using, they said thundersticks in blue and purple. Just curious if the bass pro shop even carries reef runner products? Maybe this was why they said thundersticks instead of reef runners?!?!
Good Luck!!

I saw it also, Now I am wondering what kind of credibility that gives those two fisherman with Storm Lures? They say they are using Storm Thundersticks and Jr's but you can clearly see that they were in fact using reef runner lures, I will tell you this, If those two guys are sponsored by Storm and are not that confident in their product that they had to use reef runners I will not buy any more storm lures and am switching to reef runner myself, I can just bet storm is fuming and reef runner is happy as heck over that show. What is your opinion?

The one guy was the owner of off-shore tackle, which I heard is a nice guy. Not sure about the other guy though. I was thinking that maybe bass pro shop doesn't sell reef runner lures so that's why they said they were using thundersticks. In their defense they probable didn't even know that they were going to show the segment on what tackle they used. I just thought that was pretty funny when you could clearly see it was reef runner's. After they showed what tackle they were using I thought my eye sight went. Glad I wasn't the only one who saw that!
Good Luck!!

I saw it last night as well. Pretty obvious. You could tell by the curve of the crank that it wasn't by storm. The pro was Keith Kavjeckz (I misspelled that), but I think he chats sometimes. Why would they lie?

Bass Pro Shops in Gurnee, Illinois stocks the Reef Runner's. I didn't see the presentation. However, take a look at the Normark (Rapala & Storm) aisles at Bass Pro and then look at the Reef Runner selection (maybe 15 sku's). I'm sure they (Bass Pro) have a lot more to gain from people shopping for Storm after the presentation than people shopping for Reef Runner. It's just too bad that they take the consumer for an idiot.

Keith was (is?) sponsored by Storm. What, a fisherman lie? What is this world coming to -lol.

I wouldn't be too quick to condemn Keith Kavajecz. He's a class angler who spends a lot of time on this board answering questions in the Pro Q&A page. And if I recall, it wasn't him who said what bait they were using, but the "BPS" commentator/narrator.

The guys deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I also saw the program. It did appear the fish shown on camera were caught with Reef Runners. However, neither of the fisherman ever suggested anything to the contrary. In fact, I don't recall either of the fishermen talking about the specific baits used. Unless they have editorial control of the program (which I seriously doubt)
you should not lay the blame on them.
Also, I fished as an ametuer with Keith several years ago and he is a class act. I find it hard to believe he would intentionally deceive anyone on something like this.

Gunga Din, as I said, I didn't see the show. However, I do know that Keith is pretty heavily involved with BPS. I would think that BPS would have the sense to make sure their info was accurate before they overlayed audio that did not match the video, for Keith's sake (do you think it's possible that Keith never saw the video before it aired?). Please don't get me wrong, I am not condemning Keith, I have been to his seminars and I also believe that he is a class act. However, I don't think it was necessarily a "mistake" by BPS in saying that they were using Storm in the video. It was possibly intentional because as I said they (BPS) have a much deeper stake into Normark products than Reef Runner. We have people on this site who are far too perceptive to be bamboozled into believing that Storm was used where in fact it was Reef Runner.

I agree. Only responding to some of the other posts, not yours.

Wondered the same myself

I had to laugh when I saw the show, too. I believe he filmed that in the December of '98. That is when I talked to him in Huron and he told me he was doing photo shoots for his sponsors. Besides, the fishing was much better in '98 than '99. Although he is one of my favorites, he told me he was getting his fish with Thundersticks. I heard the Reef Runner pros were catching alot more until he nearly bought all the available Reef Runners. Oh well, I enjoyed the show. By the way, the announcer said Erie walleyes grow slow. I thought just the opposite.

I don't think anybody was ripping on the guys fishing. When they showed the tackle used it was a different screen and the guys never said what they were using. So BPS could have inserted that in without them knowing. I also notice that they said erie eyes grow slow. The curve for the walleye age to length rate is faster then most inlakes. Anybody catch those digital line counter reels. BPS said those were made by Dawia, never seen those before!
Good Luck!!

I just visited the bass pro website, and found that they have a page listing the show schedules, and topics, and have a section called tackle box which shows the tackle used in each segment. They had thundersticks listed and not reef runners. I'd say it is a fair assumption that the editors/writers falsely named the bait used to promote a product bass pro sells. Are we supposed to be boycotting them anyway?

Saw the show, did anyone notice the Diawa line counters they were useing. The line counters are digital and run $350.00 dollars apiece, saw some at the Chicago fishing show, and have never seen them in any of my catalogs...redrnger

How does a retailer like bass pro have a much deeper stake into Normark products than Reef Runner? I don't understand your reasoning. Do they get a better deal from one company and make more money so they push that product? Is that what you are suggesting? I too have had numerous encounters with Keith and I find him to be an upright, honorable professional. I do not believe he would purposely deceive anyone. He will promote the vendors that support him as he should but will also give you the straight scoop about other products. I hope we don't keep bashing him. He has personally helped me in person and on this web site and I hope he continues to give us his valued insights.
