View Full Version : 11-9-06 Edgewater Park- Cleveland Night Bite

Trolled from right in front of the Edgewater launch to the East till we hit the Lighthouse wall, then we would troll back. We boated 6 walleye, Lost 2 others at the net and got a steelhead as well. Two of our fish we boated were around 30 inches and 10lbs, they were fat, stuffed with shad. The other 4 walleye were no slouches either. We only ran rapala floating minnows. Color didn't seem to matter. The big fish came on the biggest Rapala's they make, also I have some reflective tape along the body of my bigger Rapalas. Speed was 1.4-2.0 and we used the big motor to troll with trolling bags, which gives us a side to side motion as we troll. We hated to leave as we were getting pullbacks, saw good marks and lost two at the net as things were heating up. Flatlining straight off the back worked again as well. Water clarity was great, it was calm, then got quite choppy and cold around Midnight, we were trolling from about 8:30 to 12:30. I think I have figured out what a shad looks like on my finder. They are short stubby and curved but very thick compared to other baitfish I see. When we see shad we catch walleye. We were the only boat in the area, heard two guys in front of Lakewood Park by the lights that had one walleye.

After a good day of fishing the first thing you should do is write up a good detailed report and copy/paste it on every website you can thing of.
"I wonder why it's so croweded tonight"?
Thing of the rest of us that fish out there next time. Maybe we don't appreciate all the advertisement.

Get over it dude. This is a fishing report board and it is not as if the nite bite out of Cleveland is a secret to the guys that are still fishing this time of year. I am sure that you have visited the fishing report boards on this site or others a time or two yourself to find out what is going on.

Yeah, because we all know how little shoreline and open water there is to fish on Erie down there and how few fish there are .

Sheesh :banging:

ErieMan should stay home and watch TV. Quit complaining. People been fishing there for many years. It is not your private lake.

I post here and at the OGF board for two reasons, the first is that every fisherman likes to brag a little and talk about his/her success, the second reason is that I like to give back to these boards for teaching me a bunch of stuff that makes it possible for me to have some success. If that's not what these boards are about, then I will stop posting.

Not trying to be a smart a$$$ss at all. Unfortunatly the posting specifics to thousands over the web has ruined good fishing spots including this one. This is not a large productive area and after 20 years of fishing there I gave up on it last year. Boat traffic was absolutly ridiculous with several yahoos out there with no lights. Reports can be posted without specifics on location when it's that small of a productive area.
Don't complain when it's a circus out there next spring because it's your own fault. Use your head when spreading the word to thousands of strangers.

With all due respect I thought that is what this board was for also..Am I wrong?? I would assure that is the reason you also read the board is "FOR INFORMATION"! If you truly dont like what you see quit looking. Everyone hear just likes to help each other out. Many people search for a long time to find good fish. Unless you specifically gave tmoney the spot quit complaining. Just my opinion due to the fact I hate to see people stir the pot when something nice is happening.
Thanks to all for good honest reports

Fished Sunday at the mouth of the river; 23 fish, miscounted for 24. Monday, trolled form the river to E 72nd in front of the wall; had fish all the way,30 fish - no miscount. Wednesday, fished E 72nd. The east wall was packed so we went to the light house, picked up 9 fish there, and when the pack moved in,went to the east wall and got 9 more.

POINT: There are fish all throughout the southern coast of Lake Erie this time of year, we've been catching them for the last month. The problem is not the posts or the number of boats, the problem is those very few "XXXXXX" that come out and ruin a good thing for everyone, use some common sence,if you see 10 boats working a point, find a different spot, there's fish all over. If you chose to join the crowd, learn to give way, and you shall recive way. Lights, must be on at all times. Understand that you cannot just go wherever you want whenever you want, you have 10 other boats around you with a 150' spread that cannot turn on a dime, so choose your path accordingly and in advance, communicate with the other boats and you'll be surprized at the results, and again: keep your lights on. If you choose to get on the radio and tell everyone you just hit a triple and all over 10 lbs, you're bound to get some people coming your way. Understand that no one has ownership of any spot or area, so don't act like you do!

There's planty of fishing left, so go have fun, remember: It's only fishing, and whatever you choose to do or say, you're gonna be involved in it.

On my boat; best colors: blue and silver, black and silver, clown,etc.... 10'-30' behind the board. GPS speed: 1.5-2.0 mph. Water speed: 0.6- 1.0 mph. Location: take you pick!

FishCrazy:

When you say trolled from the river to E72nd do you mean the Rock River? Not familiar with the area but heading down to Cleveland for Thanksgiving and might give it a try. Thanks.

Very well said! I'm glad to hear of your results. You are right on in my opinion.

I think Virgil means the Cuyahoga.

Yes once gain very well put Virgil, I am sure all the night time regulars will agree your dead nuts on with your observation. Use lights, get in line to make a pass, watch for boards, and be aware of people hiding around the corners, it could ruin your night if you tangle up someones lines, can't fish without boards and cranks.

I'll add just a thought, if you do have boards try toi run at least one glow stick or light on the outside lines so approaching boaters can see where your lines are at, obviously you want to stay out of peoples way but we all know about the close calls it just helps, plus you get to see your boards go flying Woo Whoooo there goes one right there fish on!!

I had my personal best night ever out of Cleveland - took out three new to night fishing guys Saturday 11/18 - started at 5:00 finished at 9:30.
24 fish, 4 20" - the rest very nice with the best being a shade over 9lbs. + one bonus steelhead. Hope to have pictures to post soon.
Boards - short leads (20' - 30') using shallow running stick baits.
I was surprised at the lack of a crowd - probably do to Ohio State playing.
What a night, perfect weather, great group of guys, listening to Ohio State and catching HOG eyes.
It does not get any better than that

Nice meeting you also, hope the tape held up. We started off strong and just went dead on us. There is still alot of time to go before ice I think.
