Came down Thursday afternoon for a quick two day trip, but brought bad weather with me. Stayed at the Surf Motel in Marblehead and launched out of Mazuriks;Thursday night the weather wasn't bad but nothing happening. From that point on, the weather went south, Friday the water was a little to rough for an eighteen foot boat. Word has it that they were bitting at Cedar Point 29/36 but didn't want to travel that far from Mazuriks. Wanted to go to Huron but didn't know my way around, I can't end the season like this! Hope to come down again but under better conditions, and just watch the weather and keep an eye on the posts to make sure I know whats hot and whats not. My off days are Thursday & Friday, and the next time I'll wait until Wendsday night and if the weather is right, I'm coming back.

This time of the year you are better off launching at Huron and learning your way around. The bite has been very hot.
you have that right! before i go to erie again, im consulting the weather channel. we spent two lousy weeks at erie this year because we scheduled the weeks ahead of time and were locked in. we are retired and can go any time. from now on we consult the weather channel and walleye central!..pepe.

Bill,
we ended up launching at Dempsey's on sandusky bay, figuring I could avoid at least some of the rough stuff vs launching at Mazuricks. It WAS rough once we hit the shipping channel! I was in my 18 footer and had to quarter into 3 and 4' NE swells. We fished roughly the 28/34 area, just west of the dumping grounds. made 3 trolling passes and got our 12 by noon. I had one bag out , big motor in neutral and the bowmount on medium just to steer and still managed bounce around between 1.3 and 2.0 going with the waves.

When its not cloudy:
http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/modis.cgi/modis?region=e&page=1
I've settled on both noaa offshore & accuweather when possible:
http://wwwa.accuweather.com/index-forecast.asp?u=1&partner=accuweather&zipcode=44839
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/cle/marine/marinetab2.html
Both have been wrong but usually at least one is right. The stability of the partcular system is a big factor in accuracy. Bear in mind accuweather is for on shore. I tend to give accu more weight. My bet is noaa has a conservative guy & a less conservative guy on different shifts - updated 3 or 4 times per day...
