x15 downloads

Does anyone know anything about this? Does it have to go to a dealer or can it be downloaded from a home computer. If it can be done at home.... how is it done and what is needed?

Bobber, This is the LCX 15 mt download.

I downloaded LCX15mt Version 1.5 last week. I was somwhat apprehensive about it, but it really wasnt too bad. You need to download and save into your download file, Then, I believe you need to open up the mmc interface, and insert your mmc card. and send the download into the mmc card. After that, you just put your mmc card into the unit, and it takes over from there. If I was going to do it again, I would get the dowmload from lowrance.com, save it and then I would call into the help line in order to get it into the unit. This is actually the hardest part. They were very easy to get along with at Lowrance. I hadnt installed my unit into my boat yet, and actually had it hooked up right next to my computer when I called in. Hope this helps.

Do you have to hook your p.c. and the x15 together with a patch cord to do this? Does the mmc card stay in the x15 during the download?

No, you dont have to patch a cord to your unit. You download the upgrade into your mmc card, thru the interface, then insert the card back into the unit, and turn it on, and the card takes over in the unit.

What is the purpose for this download?

There were a lot of complaints and comments about the slow scroll speed of the X15. Lowrance says the download at their web site will aprox. double the scroll speed of the unit. It also says...keep watching for new downloads.

Actually, I had to download because the unit that I bought wouldnt recognize the map that I built. They said my unit was built last year, and required the download to be able to build the maps in the gps mapping system. I am assuming that I got the scrolling speed download with the mapping download.
