Was wondering if anything has been happening at HPD. Anyone into anything there? Sauger?

All 3 rivers are a mess with the rain, deer seasons over and I'll be heading up to HPD in a couple weeks if the water clears.

Well, I just retired 12 days ago. I've been watching this website for the last 3 or 4 years and have wanted to fish HPD, but my work never really let me get there. Now I'm ready and willing! All I need is some thoughts on how to fish HPD from shore (I have no boat) and what and when to go. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

I see a lot of guys fishing the west bank just above the marina, theres a scour hole below the dam thats reachable with a long cast. Lots of snags so be ready to lose a number of rigs, the sauger seem to hang out in number in the deeper holes and I find the walleyes on the shallower bars. I'm told they come up pretty shallow in the evenings but with an hour drive back home I'm off the river most days by 4. After the Ivan flood the fishing was slow but things are getting back to normal in the area I'm told. Over the years when the conditions were right, relatively clear water and air temperatures that didn't cause frostbite it was nothing to get over 100 fish in four or five hours, the best bite was when you had to steer around the ice chunks that came down from up north during the spring thaw. I'm looking forward to getting back up there when it looks like its worthwhile.

Thanks for the information. I remember getting directions to the shore fishing areas at HPD from "TOM THE SHADOWMAN" in the past. But I don't see him posting here anymore. Can someone else give me the path to the shore fishing areas from Sharpsburg.

pauly, you need to find that tunnel from main st in sharpsburg and walk down thur there, it will take you right to the dam......be careful cause the river is up and it comes up thur that tunnel so you,ll more than likely need hip waders to walk it.
