View Full Version : Really long trolling rods
I'm looking for 12'-16' trolling rods. I'm looking for something to longline cranks in situations where running boards might not make the most sense. Does anyone know of a source for rods like this? I've looked everywhere and I'm stumped. Any leads or help anyone might be able to give me would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance,
JAH
You might want to check out page 121 in the 2001 Bass Pro Shop Master Catalog under the Ugly Stick Big Water Rods. Other than that, you might request a Salt Water Catalog and see what they have. Wish I could help more!!
Mike McClelland had a couple 15' rods made for him in 94 or 95. I think Loomis made em for him. You might try Loomis or Mike, and see if he still nedds them. Other than that I know Loomis mades some rods up to 12' that are suitable for bouncer use. Good luck.

Look up steelhead fishing on the west coast. they use long baitcasters for them here and in alaska. There has to be a source. Good luck

I've been looking for 10.5' rods for some time. Have tried a few and end up returning them for lack of backbone.

Eagle Claw makes an 11'6" spinning rod in the Starfire series. I think Cabela's has them. SF201

figrigrods.com will build the rod you need. kevin has been putting out some really nice trolling rods. i saw some 10' rods that he made this year and they were really nice.

I have a 10-1/2' St. Croix that I use for steelhead. Very soft through the top 1/2 and semisoft for the next 1/8 but lots of backbone near the butt. I have caught many 20+ lb kings and barracuda of similar size w/ this rod on 10-12 lb line and never felt overmatched. It feels extremely light until you really load it up and find the power in the bottom portion of the rod.
I have a 12 Rod I purchased from Cabelas that you might like. It is called a Match Rod. It comes in 3 - 4ft. sections. Long rods are a pain in a boat. I seldom use it in the boat. It is too hard to reach the tip if you get a wrap around at the top. I used to fish for salmon a lot on Lake Michigan. I made some rods 7' 9" so I could always reach the tip when standing up. Rough water makes things much harder. A good steelhead casting rod would probably be what you would like. St. Croix Avid or Cabelas 8 1/2 to 10 ft - Good luck with your choice.

Shimano Convergence makes a 10.5 footer that is a quality graphite rod with just the right amount of tip action and plenty of backbone and there not that heavy. E-mail me with any questions.
