Turtle Creek or Wild Wings Marina they will put you right on top of them, I believe both have websites, campgound, lodging, fish cleaning, etc.If you put in any further east say Catawba your going to have a 10 mile run.

K is right, there are no public launches that I am aware of -- probably no one rich enough in the area to grease enough political hands to get one. But the private ones are only $5 except Wings which has been $10.

Launch out of Fenwick Marina, will cost ya $5.00, but
you can come back in and stay in campground for $13.00!
Hit it the next day, and good to go! PS Keep to the LEFT
going out channel, gets REAL SKINNY to the right, nothing
to worry about if you have been forwarned! Hope to be there
in 2 weeks, troll off the reefs for some pigs!

The 18' doesn't bother me, but the Nitro does. That is a bass boat correct? It is just that they sit so low. The big water is very cold (in the low to mid 40's at that time of year). I've seen bass boats out there then, but they pick very calm days. If we get that NE Spring wind, then flat becomes 1 to 3 and beyond fast. You won't have a long run, but you'll be wet. Critical to be safe this early in the year.

Launches:

http://www.fishlakeerie.com/fenwickmarina/ (solid choice, $5)

http://www.landbigfish.com/marinas/showcase.cfm?ID=1923

The above links will get you to two marinas right by the reefs. The reef complex basically is north of Davis Besse or Camp Perry (for map reference.

Two main techniques are used until early to mid-may:

#1 will be "jigging" with heavy lead head hair jigs or fuzzy grubs (purple is very effective) tip with a large shiner on many days.

#2 guys will slow troll stick baits (reef runners and the like) in the top 10' of the water column off the reef complex (north) and east of the reefs.

I think if you do a search on this website or others, you should find very good information on this topic. If you need further info, email me at pdy_aca_mv@nwoca.org

The Cooley Canal Boat Ramps are located near Bono, Ohio, off Lake Erie. In addition to the ramps which offer easy access for boaters, there are outdoor grills throughout the area for free public use. The ramps can accommodate boats up to 24 foot in length and with a 14 foot beam. They are located on Coderoy road free ramps offered by Lucas County------I am not sure how far of a boat run you are looking at from these ramps but they are free.

Also if you decide to use Fenwyck or Wildwings there is E and C campground where I keep my camper--It is just East of Davis Bessi off rt 2 If u are heading East cross the little bridge over the Toussaint River and hang a left bout 3 blocks down--She offers a cottage for rent 20 bucks per person per night minimum of 3 people or pay the difference, It can sleep 6 singly with all the amendities, open from mid to late April weather permitting through the summer. Email me at basswalleyeperch@yahoo.com and Ill give you there number. Nice people decent deal----Tell em mike sent ya maybe Ill get a discount on my lot rent. Just thought I would pass the info along

Jack,

How do you even find the reef's? I heard you cant read a compass or know what direction north is when your on the water? Maybe you have a GPS now? Make sure you take extra batteries with you!

While we're here, has anyone used or heard of casting deep diving cranks over the shallower reefs (<15ft.)? I have read a couple of articles using baits such as x-raps. Anyhow, won't be long!

Wondered if you would remember that day. Not getting any kicks, my freezer is already full. Just glad to see your helping the average joe. I can remember fishing the reefs and never seeing another boat on the lake. By the way I have a perfect ice slead for sale. Its going this week to someone. $450 and its yours. let me know. Runs like a top / studed track, perfect. Beat a quad any day on the ice.

If your Crank fishing why bother with the male jacks on the reefs when you could be putting HAWGS in the boat just off the reefs.

With the price of gas you would be best to launch out of toussaint river area. Short ride and your FISHIN, oh yea, alot of fish are caught at almost dark alot, from 6-10 ft of water in this area too!
