I am looking at getting a St. Croix Avid spinning rod in the medium action 6'3" extra fast for jigging. I'm looking for recommendations for a reel to best match up with this rod.

I would have to go with the Shimano Stradic 1000. Seems to me to be the perfect size for jigging. Good Luck! Fred

I'll second that.

I just got that rod! It is matched with a Diawa Emblem X 2000. Both high quality. Sweet rod.

Yepper, the Shimano reels are great and the Stradic is one of the best in the line up. However, if you want one handed casting with the same quality as the Stradic, look at the Spirex 2000 RB with QuickFire II and Rear Drag/Fightin' Drag. The easiest spinning real to opperate.
With that rod, I would stay with the 2000 series since you will not save much in weight, but you will give up line weight and capacity. IMHO.

I got that rod a year ago and put a Shimano Symmetre 2000 on it. I would reccomend this reel or the stradic. The size is up to you, but I chose the 2000 for the extra spool capacity and longer casting distance. It matches up perfectly.

I own one of these rods. Have a pinnicle deadbolt limited 30 on it. Good combo! The Shimono's listed here are also good reels. I feel the Avid series is probably one of the best values in rods out there. Note: I said best value not the best rod. I would recomend that anyone who does not want to spend $200 plus on a rod consider the Avid series. P.S. take a look at the AVS59MXF also. This is also a good jigging rod. I have 5 or 6 friends that I have recomended this rod too. They all love it! I happen to use Loomis, but like I said this series is a good value

Thanks for the input. I've been leaning towards the Stradic but was also looking at the Pinnacle Deadbolt Limited.

I would recommend the Pinnacle Deadbolt series. Either the regular Deabolt or the Limited. Awsome reels and I haven't had a lick of trouble from them. You bought a St. Croix Rod, Buy a Pinnacle Reel. Service is #1 with both companies.

Spend the $$$ and go with the Stradic, or at least the Symmetry. I dont think you can honestly compare either of them to the Deadbolt, at least not to the two deadbolts that I have laying around here, unless they have made some drastic changes in them.
