I have been seriously considering purchasing a Pinpoint system. My question though is are they reliable? I know when they are working you can't beat them but I seem to hear alot of people with them saying they are having to send them back repeatedly for repair. Is their reliability suspect and how do they compare to other set-ups?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-01 AT 09:45AM (CST)[p]I have been running Pinpoint motors for 5 years now. I went through a lot of the problems early on in the first 2 seasons. Since then, I've never sent one in for a repair. For those that know me, they know that my electric motors see a lot of hours in a year. I know that there are people every year that have to send in their motors for this problem, or that problem (as with any electronics company), but from what I hear, people are very satisfied with Pinpoint's customer service.
I will be running a Pinpoint on this year's boat again and can't imagine running any other brand.
You do have to familiarize yourself with the limitations of the motor as with any piece of equipment on your boat.

I've only had my PinPoint system on the water for one season, but it worked flawlessly.

I have been running Pinpoints for a few years now and love them! I have had to send them back twice (my first year) and both of those times were my fault. The problem I was having and many other people were having was in rough water the head (motor end) would spin around and throw the steering off. Everything would work except you would loose the ability to steer it. I have since fixed this problem with a RAM trolling motor mount. It holds the motor in place and doesn't let it move while in rough water. I have never had a problem since! I feel you would feel very good about owning one and benefit from it greatly. They have lots of power and the graphs kick butt. That is about as simple as I can get. :) Good fishing and don't forget to shoot the puck. Mike Peluso #999
