Just for the heck of it a buddy and I went down to the Maumee Sunday knowing that it was going to be cold out and the crowds wouldn't be around. We got to Ft Meigs around sunrise and fished til about 10 with no hits. We fished about 100 yards upriver from the parking lot. We saw one eye caught, one snagged and one garfish caught. This was our first time fishing the Ft Meigs area and we wondered if anyone else here fishes that area?? Guys were fishing from right at the bridge pilings and upriver to the island and off the island via a canoe? Wondering if there are better spots to go? Is it worth it to get over to the island and fish the main river side?? We could only get about 10 feet off shore (with the high water) and caught a lot of sticks and junk in the river but no actual fish...

Hey Tommiller97, tell you were I use to go and did very well. I am from lower Michigan and fished there alot of years. I use to park down by the cemetary but can't remember the name of the road it was bye highway 23/75 I'd go across to the island on the main river on the up stream end of the island and when on the main river you will be what looks like an eddy or a big diagnol ripple that crosses the river and fish right there. Here is the secret...you don't have to cast across the river but rather just cast a jig 30 feet diagnaly up current and fish the drop and BINGO !! That's the ticket!! The cemetary was just down the road from sidecut park I do remember..

Yeah I think you're referring to River road area where Jerome Road dead ends into River road. East of there is the island; bluegrass island if that is what I'm thinking of...and you were fishing the upriver side...never tried it there. We use to fish the main river side of bluegrass and walk across the island and fish the downriver side of the island. Bummer would be the decent walk only to find many guys over there as well! But it is a large island with a lot of areas to wade out to. The cool thing about fishing there was seeing the many deer on the island that were not too shy when it came to guys walking thru their habitat!!
We normally fish upriver of that area towards the rapids and have had good luck there so we didn't try many other spots. This year I wanted to try some new areas..

Thanks for the info.

The fort can be a great place to fish.We have taken many quick limits there. It was just a little early and really high when you were there.

Yes tomiller97 that I believe is the island I am speaking about. Just down stream of the overpass over the river and the opposite side from the big rapids. I had fished there for 20 years and when the water was too high I fished the down stream end of that island from sidecut park..Good fishin and Happy Trails !!!

Does any one have a report for the river yet? My buddy is waiting for me to let him know. They'll be coming from Coldwater so any info would be appeciated. I posted for the Trenton Channel today check it out. Thanks, WalleyeSteve.

Maumee Tackle's site is a good for general info but remember he is selling tackle. The fish are there and if the water does not come up the weekend should be good. Another source for river info is www.walleyerun.com.

Papascott...limit in 1.5 hours after work today, takes me longer to drive and unload my rig before I even hit the ice...what is wrong with me.....ICEJUNKY, turned my buddy on to the hardwater this year and he has been calling me a "dealer". LOL

I find his reports to be fairly accurate.
