Anyone been out west?? I hear a few rigs were at Catawba and fenwick was ready to roll. How's the ice situation also?? I HOPE to be up tomorrow and sunday pending weather and lake conditions.

Called Happy Hooker today. Said most guys they talked with caught fish today. So, the ice appears to be gone from Besse west. My guess that clarity will be fairly poor, but the reefs always clean up first. Also, called Hiway Bait, but they aren't officially open until next week. Catawba has some bergs, you can get out there. They said they believe Mazurik's is not open yet. Nothing official, but they said fish caught North of Kelly's in 38' of water. Going Sunday. Time to get out.

sounds like a bunch of ice floating- may wait it out

The folks at happy hooker said it would take a pretty good blow from the east to bring the ice back. That was their report not mine. Hopefully some of the guys who were out will post conditions. Be good to call Fenwick.

when I talked with fenwick they told me there was ice 3 miles out. I'm in, meeting the other 2 boats in the am at Rickards and see what happens

I was out to Erie today but stayed by Locust and Cone reefs. Nothing at Locust but then limited out at Cone. All fish were in 26 fOW. I heard that a couple of boats were fishing right next to a huge berg and that part of it broke off and damaged the boats and hurt a couple of the guys. We only saw a few chunks of ice. BE CAREFUL GUYS!

Catawba Island is in the Port Clinton area. Hope this helps..

The easiest way to show you is:
Go to http://www.mapquest.com and put this information in the blanks:
City: Port Clinton
St: OH
Zipcode: 43452
A map of the city will come up. Just move the image to the Northeast and you'll see Catawba Island. It's more of a penninsula than an island, but that's neither here nor there...
Rt 53 runs on the East side of the island and Catawba Rd. runs down along the West side of the island.
Catawba State park is located about a mile from the tip on the West side. The entrance splits a golf course...you can't miss it.
Miller Ferry runs it's operation out on the very tip of the Island too.
