Two guys went out today and caught there limit in 2 hrs, they said there fish were 19-24 in. They were mark'n alot of fish, most all year! Some 10 lbers were caught yesterday west of Humbug island in 4-5 ft of water casting black jigs. East of warm water discharge and up river near Trenton has been good too. The pros are out this week prefish'n for there turny next weekend, most of them don't say to much. Now's the time!

Casting in the Trenton Channel, eh? Now this couldn't possibly be fictitious in advance of the FLW could it?

It's possible. LOL I was trolling out in the area twice in the last week and saw people catching fish in 4-5 FOW on alot of different presentations. Casting cranks, casting jigs, jigging, trolling jigs, handlining, me trolling Raps :), you name it. So many fish in there, you almost can't help but to catch a fish. Best spring I've ever seen so far. Mostly 2-4# males though, but I did lose a good 8-10#'er on my first trip. :(

The fisherman who caught the 10 lbers would be upset that I gave up his hot spot, but I feel that all is fair in love, war and fish'n. I saw the fish. There is a bay to the west of Humbug island that is usually 10-12 ftow but the day fished 40 mph winds lowered the water buy 4-6 ft. Be aware of this wind because some guys went out and could'nt get back in. Elisabeth park sould'nt not be a problem launch'n.

Good post WalleyeSteve !! I am going to wait a few more days before venturing back out as I'm not affraid of the cold but it causes my lower back to stiffen up in my L3,L4,L5 S1 area, makes it tough to load the boat...good luck to all..

Here's an out of the ordinary report! I talked to a friend and he went out one day last week for a shakedown run haul'n craller harnesses from Celeron island to the Detroit light. He picked up 5 fish!, they were all females 3-6.5 lbs. Never heard of anyone trying that area this time of year? What do you think?

Perchjerker and WalleyeSteve when either of you see me in my red/black Stratos 285 Pro XL on the river stop over and say hello and I also pull her with a white Silverado 4X4 so when you see me stop and say hello !!! Thanks for the offer. I don't fish the channel this time of year. I just enjoy posting info so others can take the cold weather challenge. Not mutch to report today, some guys went out, no report back yet, there proably frozen. My boat is still in winter storage. My dad and I troll the lake starting in May. I've known cronic back pain since 91, makes it tough to fish sometimes.

Steve-

sorry to hear about your back. I did read your post about fishing with the crawler harnesses. We do good with them off of bottom bouncers later in the year in the lower channels around calf and celeron. Good to know they work in the spring too.

Thanks for the report. But where exactly is Humbug Island? Is it the one just north of Humbug Marina, real tight to shore; or in Humbug Bay, just south of Grosse Ile Airport; or someplace else? I thought that those 2 spots were much shallower. Or could it be Celeron Island??

Humbug island is north of the marina, the bay to the west of the island is the area. The pros were out, I don't envy them today! It was a little to cold for a boat trip.

I talked to a guy and his son pulled limits in two drifts near mud island day before yesterday, jig'n. I would start out with dark colors if the water is stained. Some guys are catch'n fish on Wyndotte worm no paint jigs tiped with a craller also. I didn't know why the Wyndotte worked untill I saw a article in the Monroe paper that said a 4 in lampre spawns the same time the eyes do and the gear mimics the lampre. The picture looked like a leach, I don't know anyone who has leeches for sale? The entire river is producing fish but not like last week, this cold snap slowed'm down a little. Good luck 63.

Hello WalleyeSteve thinking of heading over there in the morning if the wind lays down. I was also trying to locate Mud Island on my map and can't read that small of print. Tell you what give me a email mine is katcor1965@aol.com and I will email you my cell phone number and if I am fishing at 1 you are welcome to call me and I will meet you at Elizabeth Marina and we will hit it as long as this wind isn't blowing like it was today. I have a 18 foot Stratos bass boat red metallic and black dual console so I will have room for 2..My name is Jon by the way !!!!

Hey perchjerker, yes I got out Tuesday morning about 7:30 am and started out by giving a couple fisherman a tow back to the ramp as their boat quit running. I lost 2 or 3 before going to a stinger hook and solved that problem and ender up with 3 fish in the box. 27", 26" both spawned females and a 21" male. I fished just north of Humbug Marina below the BIG pack of boats. Flourecent orange & yellow 3/8 jig with a 1/4 inch piece of chartruse grub body on hook with a minnow. One other boat fishing near me took 3 or 4 fish also. A bit windy but it was tolerable. A bad day fishing is still better than good day working !!!! What really sets me off is when a big boat 20' plus goes roaring by at no further than 25 feet away and sends a wake over the bow of my 18' bass boat and I actually got wet feet over than and all they could do is smile at you!!! No respect for others !! I just had to vent a bit !!! Good luck to all..
