Went out Sunday morning about 8:00 AM. MANY empty rigs in the parking lot, already. The Shuttle driver said there was a bass tournament, and the Southtown's Walleye Tournament going on. (We are not entered in either one.)

Trolled offshore, roughly parallel to the new windmills, in 31 - 35 feet of water, for about 2 hours. 1.4 - 1.9 MPH (GPS), pulling a worm harness, and crank baits. Quite a few boats in the general area.

Radio was quiet (always is during tournament time), except for a couple of reports of boats picking up some fish, no details / locations at all.

Finally boated a nice 22" Walleye, on a copper w/ watermellon stripe worm harness. (50 / 50, using a 2 ounce snap weight) 1.6 MPH (GPS), over about 31 feet of water, as we were curving in towards the humps off of Smoke's Creek.

We quickly debated, and ended up releasing it; due to concerns with the VHS disease in the lake.

I know the Southtown's Walleye Tournament is going on, and all that.
BUT, how about more reports on the far east end of Lake Erie?
Most everyone is very "closed mouthed" ALL season long, at this end of the lake (and have been for years). Seems to be way less reports / information offered at the far east end of Erie, than anywhere else on the lake.
[Just my 2 cents worth, I'll get off the soap box, now - ha!]

Good Luck.

Fished off the humps yesterday, drifted in from 35 foot of water. Ended up catching a number of bass, a nice 24 inch eye and a sheephead. The eye actually came in 18 foot of water. All fish were caught on a green and gold fleck power tube with an insert rattle. Talked to a guy before leaving the marina and they had (4) eyes in the box, trolling around the departure bouy. Hope this helps....... I will start trolling for eyes in the next week or two and will post my results.........

Went out Saturday, saw all the boat trailers in parking lot also.

Went west for a ways and trolled in 20 to 35 feet of water.

Used flatline for the most part with deep diving crankbaits.

Caught 4 keep eyes in the high teen size. Lot a few more that were bigger.

Also had fun with Small Mouth bass.

Color did not seem to make any difference. Colors used included brown with orange bottom, silver color, and silver and blue.

Was out again last night from 5:30-9:00 PM. Was marking some good fish on the 30 foot break off of the steel plant but no eyes for the taking. Did end up catching a number of bass and sheephead. There were a number of boats trolling the 30-40 foot break but it didn't appear that they were having much action.

Good luck,
Tom

Hi guys,

Just want to add, when I was living and fishing in Buffalo.
Used to come out of the small boat harbor, South opening, head straight out to the Departure Bouy. Would start trolling there, and head west, of course being careful, NOT to venture too far into Canadian waters. (
(hehehe)

My 2 boy's and I used almost nothing but worm harnesses. On dipsey's and jets.

Hope this helps in some way or another. Good Fishing. Bill.

Thanks for your input Bill, you are correct, start trolling at the departure bouy and head west towards Seneca shoals. Just took a ride down to the lake and there were a number of boats trolling off the steel plant, a little deeper thatn the previous (2) days. Water seems to be clearing which may be pushing the eyes slightly deeper.

most guys fishing the southtowns walleye tourney are fishing out of sunset bay and west including dunkirk and barcelona, the usual colors are working, watermellon on copper ans black with purple prism tape. Thats if you can afford the gas to trailer 2 hours down and 2 hours back for six days.

Other than that the walleyes are being taken out of buffalo in the emerald channel and by the round house on copper blades with red beads drifting. A lot of eyes in the 3 to 4 pound class

Some hogs are being taken in the lower Niagara River at the mouth drifting with harnesses, again copper blade with red beads

Was out yesterday from 4:00 pm to just after 8:00 pm (6/12). Fished in front of 18 mile creek trolling East towards Hamburg Beach, lots of 18-22 in. eyes, and lots of smallies. Fish were suspended and on bottom in 25 to 40 feet of water. The bigger fish seem suspended, largest was 7.10 lbs. Pulled segmented leadcore off the boards with 40 ft. leaders and stick baits. Anything with a purple or rainbow hue with a wide caught fish. Biggest key was speed. 2.2 - 2.8 was the ticket for larger fish and less sheepshead.
Good luck guys!
