Made the run over this morning on board Idlewake. We went to same area we fished monday but no takers so moved northwest, just few miles out of wheatley harbor in 50' water. Three of us got 15 for 22 or so. Also got 15 walleyes, half of which were decent fish with one going 7 lbs.
Best program was dipsey's #1 back 60 to 75 and #3 back 90 to 120. 40 jets back 100 took fish but i'd say little over half came on dipseys but only 2 on downriggers which was surprising. Hot colors were "jerry lee", "tangerine" and a black/purple northern king spoon. Fish seemed to come in small flurries but hot bite was over by 11 a.m. or so. Done by 2:15 p.m. Beautiful day on the lake.

They left out of West Harbor the run to Wheatly area is about 40 miles give or take depends on where they fished ?? It is over 44 to the harbor I think ? I made the same trip two weeks ago and coming back was 38 miles. I dock with Idlewake. So it is a good ride !!

40 miles one way. Depending on the boat they are probably getting all of 3/4 to 1 MPG. Gas on the water is running around what $3.00 plus per gallon .....OUCH!!!

it's not that bad. It took $153 at 2.99/gallon. split three ways is $50 each. If i'd of made the trip in my boat , could of gotten by with about $60 total but Paul's boat is much more comfortable for the long haul, although I've made the trip many times in mine.

As Boatnut says, $50 in gas is what it cost to play a decent golf course and I would rather chase fish than the white ball. When you hit one of those great steelie days, the price of gas is almost inconsequential.

My group followed Paul over on Sunday in our 23 fter. we only used 35-40 gal. for the entire trip... 6 AM to 4 PM We were done fishing at 1 PM, but the we were fighting consistant 4 fters with an occasional 5 fter thrown in all the way back to the border.
It was our first trip for steelies and over to Wheatley. It is well worth the trip. That is the most fun I have had fishing in a long time!!
