Congratulations. After 38 years, I quit cold turkey 2 years ago. I was smoking 4 to 5 packs a day for the last few years. Gained 25 lbs. after I quit, but my grand kids said they would rather have a fat grandpa than a smoking one. Keep up the good work.

Good for you, man! Keep it up! You say you live in the Sioux Falls area? I took a good look in the mirror the other day and decided I would tone down the belly some, might get the boat to run a lttle faster with less of me in it.(lol) If you do live in the SF area, give me a call, I'll work out with ya. I'll keep you from smoking, and you can drive me to loose a few #'s.

Jeremy,

Excellent, man!! Keep going strong, this coming Monday (3/12) it will be 5 MONTHS for me! I don't have the slightest interst in smoking anymore even after 2 Sportsmen Bashes! And that is saying something 'cause my buds still smoke and were with me!

nice going ranger
I have been being carful to not spend alot of time with smokers, but not to be cut off from friends and family at the same time.

Can be a little tricky sometimes

Sure can!! But I figure that I am going to have to face it in the boat, cars etc. and I might as well harden my resolve. I feel I am far enough along to begin. It's working!

Funny thing, for me - What I have noticed about quitting is not my sense of taste (food tastes better, enjoy it more, more flavorful, etc.) it is my sense of smell!! It has probably quadrupled, and I mean it! The most offensive smell to me now is car exhausts and the smell of the catalytic converter which I didn't know existed before I quit! It is NOT smokers! Weird!

I am still a bit of a smoker, I like the way they smell.

But yes I can smell more too, Smell more food, food that tasts better, its all just a crule circle. Dont smoke, smell food, eat food, get fatter, sleep, rinse repeat.

LOL, just kidding, I love the smell of spring time, allways have. and can't wait for this years spring, it will be extra special.

I thought long about not posting this--but if it helps one person quit or not start smoking, it will be GREAT...My Mother smoked for 50 years, until she had part of a lung removed for lung cancer, 5 years ago. That cancer was removed, and since then, another different lung cancer has shown up--non-operable, and has spread to her kidney, liver, and other organs. The years of smoking has also given her COPD(emphasyma). She is currently on oxygen 100% of the time, gets breathing treatments every 4 hours, and is in a care facility--NOT a pretty picture. Let's be honest--the nicotine is VERY addicting. It is up to each of us to decide on our future, as far as injesting drugs and alcohol--but PLEASE SUPPORT anyone who is trying to quit, or deciding whether or not to start---it's a terrible way to die. Good luck--see you on the water!!

When I was a teenager willing to try anything, my first girlfriend told me that kissing a smoker would be like licking an ashtray. I never tried smoking anymore with that thought in mind. I don't know where that first girl is today, but I would not be married to the beautiful babe I have today if I ever had started. My wife is a health nut and a good influence on me too. She is 43 but still looks 29. Amazing how one wrong immature decision to smoke back then could have adversely affected my whole life. Stay off the smokes, you will be rewarded many times more. Good luck.

Thank you Rice burner...

that sounds like a hard thing to share. But I am glad that you did. please give your mom my best wishes (& an hug and kiss if need be), her story hardens my resolve.

Congrats! It can be done as I am LIVING proof! On October 14, 1978 I abandoned a three(3) pack a day habit (more if I was partying). How many added days of life have I harvested? In all probability, I would not be here now. Good Goin'

i have had almost all the bad habits a person can have and kicked them all(with the love and support of my family) but i never started smoking cigarettes thank god. society is so down on drug abuse, it cracks me up to hear an old drunk tobbaco smokin fool pass judgement on other drug users. oh by the way good for you i hope you can stick to it

Keep at it; It gets easier. I quit on 06Jan01; My tally is 66days at 2 packs a day; 2640 cigarettes; 132 packs at 3.50=$594;
That's alot of bait. Good luck
