I'm thinking of buying a 620. Does anyone have any feedback on how they perform in rough water.I've heard that you can spear waves if your not carefull.how dry of a boat is it. thanxs

They are excellent in rough water. I speared a wave with mine and blame most of that on pilot error. did that in the first month I owned it, By the way it is for sale posted on walleye central. Have 2 now so need to sell.

I was prefishing for the Devils Lake Chamber Walleye Tournament, the waves were in the three to four foot class, and it seemed like the Ranger boats didn't even need to slow down. I was running a Crestliner Sportfish 1850 at about 47-50mph and my partner and I were getting pounded to death. The Ranger boats really appeared to slice the water giving their occupants a very soft ride. Should have bought a glass boat, I guess.

I too speared a wave in the first month I owned my 620 back in 99. My incident was pilot error. I have not speared one since, and I've fished a lot rougher water since.
I haven't been in a smoother or dryer boat in rough water. The bow weight is the key to the smooth ride in rough water. You can keep the bow from blowing up on you when you're punching through waves because of the extra bow weight.

I try not to go head on into the waves. The boat is everything you could want in a boat. If you want one this year you better hurry, the production is almost sold out. Watch for the pros selling theirs and save some $$$. I went with no jackplate last year and found the bow as high as I would like it. I think I will look at a 6" Panther power lift this year. You will love the layout and the ride. Go for it.

I have a two year old 620 and love it. I have been at Oahe and Kentucky lake when it's been rough, I haven't speared mine yet but I suppose it could happen. I have a 225 which I think is a must with this boat and a full windsheild, haven't had a drop of water on me and the ride is 2nd to none. There are faster boats and there are some with different options and maybe cheaper, but I believe you get what you pay for. I wouldn't trade my for anything, except maybe a new one

I just bought my 620 and it's sitting in the garage. I can not see to what it is made of, but buy the reports I should be all smiles. I used to have a Warrior(good boat) but when you sit in this Ranger the quality speaks for itself. If you have the cash I wouldn't even think twice. It is true when we were in this tournament and the waves were big, I was wishing for a neck brace while the people in the 620's were barly affected.

Hey Maybe,

I have a 1999 620, and have never speared a wave with it. I have never felt uneasy or unsafe. I made several loong runs in rough water, including a 63 mile round trip at Little/Big bay de Noc last year.

Coincidently, mine is for sale too. On Walleye Central classifieds, only have about 70 hours on the motor. I am downsizing this year, otherwise the boat is everything I ever hoped for, and more.

Have fun.....R

Hey Ben , 50 MPH in 4 footers . Get real , I would like to use the tape measure you used to measure my walleyes . Start telling it like it is.

A decent driver can run across waves at 50 mph, not directly into or with them, in four foot waves without a problem. Get between them or ride the crest and go. Don't you have very much experience on rough seas or do you run a Sylvan or Tracker?

Easy to hide behind a name such as lucky, I'm also from Devils Lake. Next time you choose to take such a stance on an issue, put your name down to give it a little credibility. Have you ever fished with Ben? This guy knows how to fish (he fishes 5 out of seven days a week), I'll put him up against anyone on Devils Lake. No bull here, 47-50mph in 3-4 footers is how he runs all of the time. WOT constantly during tournaments.

You're going to love the 620. It's the BEST ride I've ever experienced. I ran Lunds (no knock on them whatsoever) for years and found that I wasn't able to keep a good trolling pass unless I was backtrolling it. Problem was, it wasn't heavy enough in the bow in the wind. The Ranger will provide a dry ride in all conditions and years of fishing pleasure for you and your family. If you're in bad seas, make sure you learn to quarter waves and look into the oncoming "Threes."

Check out Ralph's boat (nofish620). It's a real bargain at that price and very well equipped versus spending another 10-15 grand to buy a new one. If you haven't owned one before, you couldn't find a finer one than that!
