My nephew was there last weekend for 2 days. Only caught 2 walleyes.
He was dissapointed. He generally does most of his fishing in the early morning, and then at dusk and after dark for a few hours. Throws blade baits along the weed edge and also into deeper water from the edge. He is a good Chataqua fisherman. He said things were so slow, they ran up to Erie for some perch.
Oh well.

Two places I would start...south basin pounding just off bottom with crankbaits. Keep your speed up seems to keep the numbers of white perch down. Look along the 28-30 depth on the north end.
My last trip on Erie at Barcelona a couple weeks ago had water temps at 68 deg. Chautauqua is usually holding a bit warmer.
There is a good bite of steelies with some walleye and browns mixed in off Chautauqua Creek at Barcelona.

Just talked with a friend that has a camp on the lake, he was there thru same stretch you were with similar success. They were limited in 1 hour on 1 day. Were you jigging or trolling? They jigged the holes, 4 days with limits each day.

We mostly jigged the holes but did some tolling (really in hopes of musky LOL ) but actually caught a few nice eyes that way as well that we released.
