I will be moving to the Sioux Falls area soon. Does anybody know of any good walleye lakes or rivers closer than Lake Thompson? Is the Big Sioux River good at all?
Thanks in advance

Give me a call when you get in I live in valley spring which is east of brandon i can take you to some very good lakes. I would recommend buying a minnesota lic. too, its not that much and there is very good fishing around here.

I moved to Sioux Falls from Madison SD last spring. Fished Lake Vermillion (25 miles west) several times and caught some very nice fish. Wall Lake (10 miles west)can have a good bite, but mostly at night. Give me a shout when you get to town. Many lakes within an hours drive.

Hey Dutchman, I'm originally from Madison, SD too. Been in SF for almost 12 years. Moved here because at 19 could stand living in Madison. Now all I ever want to do is go back. Have cuaght some good fish on Lake Brandt (Chester) and if you don't mind catching a few small ones Lake Madison can surprise you once in a while. Just go before Memorial Day or after Labor Day when the weekend criusers aren't around. Chamberlain is a little farther than Thompson, a lot of smaller walleyes, but give it it's due and you can take home some decent 'eyes.

Bah, I don't want to mess with the river anymore.

if you want to drive, head up to the watertown area, much better fishing, IMO.

Good plug for watertown Jeremy. There's lots of good fishing between Lake Thompson and Big Stone, and watertown's right in the middle of it.

Aymen to that eyez.

My brother lives there, and if I had my way, I would too.

But my wife does not think its a good idea to move just for the fishing.

My brother has been calling it gods country since he moved there, and I am starting to see that too.

The KEG! Chicken and potato wedges for us! That is the only place to go for chix dinner. KFC cannot hold a candle to it.
Sounds like a plan to me! Working here at Gateway can get a guy hungry anyhow!

Scott.

I'm coming from Sioux City and have fished the Mo.River a lot.
From Pickstown to Akaska. I have fished Waubay and Lake Thompson just a few times. Just trying to find a couple close lakes to be able to hit for a day. I'm getting married now so I won't have as many weekend long trips.

JEB,
I have often wanted to go to Alaska to see what it looks like, just for curiosity's sake. But it's never near where I'm going. Could you tell me anything about the town? And or the fishing opportunities there? Aswell as lodging in the area?
I'm from Cherokee, Iowa!

I live in Brandon. The fishing can be good on the Big Sioux for a variety of fish. I fish Lake Thompson, Chamberlain, Waubay, Big Stone a lot. Lots of good water all over the eastern part of the state from SF to Roy Lake. Take your pick!! Have fun!

Hey Eyez, what are some suggestions in your area? I live in Brandon and go mostly to Lake Thompson, Waubay, Pickeral, Big Stone. It would be great to know about some of the lakes in your area for Walleys!! Thanks!

Sorry for the slow response Westy, I was at the state beer drinking... I mean dart tournament in Aberdeen all weekend. :)

I fish the lakes that you mentioned too, but I like to fish some others also. Lake Alice, Preston, Roy, Kampeska, Pelican, Albert, John, Norden, and some others that I can't think of right now. I spend a lot of time talking to others to find the hot lake, because there's always one.

How is the walleye fishing in Pickeral Lake these days? I grew up in that area 40 years ago and we fished Pickeral Lake a lot. Had a cabin at the north end...probably underwater now??? It had a great dock and beach for fishing. We did real well on walleyes in the summer at night...trolling using 3 way rigs and small frogs in the rocks in the deep hole (middle of lake) at night. A boat is a great place to see the stars and northern lights...miss that a lot! Also, did real well casting gold spoons from shore in early October. Would like to go back there. Now I live in the Northwest and fish the Columbia River...walleyes are bigger, but harder to find.
