I'm a little confused by a previous post by Hans on the 420 and it's comparison to the 425. Does the 425 have a pre-loaded baackground map or is the only way you get mapping to buy carts for specific lakes or areas. For example, if I want to fish Lake Ida in Mn. and there is no Navionics cart for this lake, will the screen simply be blank or will I have a rough outline of the lake. Thanks for the help.

Hugh, I am getting real close on deciding to buy the Raychart 425. From looking at their website (www.autohelm.com), the unit does have a built in world map. For more detail you will need to purchase the navionics cards. On the website you can read the owner's manual for the unit. It is in adobe acrobat format.

I talked to Raytheon today and asked about the background map. He said it will not show any inland lakes and you can only zoom in to 20 mile range with the background map.
