I got a Fiber Max spinning rod from Fig Rig Rods the other day (replacing a fiber pro UPS broke). The hook keeper on the Fiber Max was on the opposite side (on the top of the rod) of the blank as the eyes. I've never seen this before. Have you?

Howdy, Eric

I was looking at the Fiber Max at the Mn Walleye Expo, and the placement of the hook keeper actually kept me from buying the rod. In my opinion, the only logical place for the hook keeper on a spinning rod is on the left side of the blank, but that is because I'm right handed. Perhaps they put it on top so it's not in the way for the Southpaws - who knows...I had one other rod with the keeper on top (I think it was a Berkley Fireflex, but I could be wrong) and it seemed to always be in the way. I ended up cutting it off with a side cutter and gringing down the nubs with a Dremel tool

I am a south paw, but that is where I put mine when I build a rod. I never gave it much thought, but it works well for me.

I just recently got a FiberMax spinning rod and the hook keeper was on the bottom. Maybe yours was a mistake?
